Hornady 7mm 180 ELDm

Thank you for the picture for comparison. At first glance, the claimed BC does seem optimistic. In the same frame, it looks like Sierra hit one that's headed out of the park with the 183. That is a good looking projectile that will stabilize in many current barrels. All of a sudden 180 Hybrids look like fodder.

I can't help but think that the 180 looks like a great hunting bullet- I've seen 100% performance success using old 6.5 Amax'es, and I think that that 180 looks like just the medicine to hit hard and be versatile to handle close and far. I think that the ELDx line went too wide on their poly tips.

Can you explain your comment on the poly tips? Thxs.

It's my unfounded opinion that the larger (wider) poly tips on the ELDx line are a detriment to their versatility. At impact velocities around 2100 fps or lower, the larger plastic tip will allow for proper bullet expansion on game. At higher impact velocities, above say 2500 fps, the larger tip will cause excessive expansion and possible projectile disintegration. Not that it should change the end result of a good shot, but it has made me think twice about what they were actually designed to do.
