Hornady 62 ELD-VT 223 Load

What was the twist rate on the 20" gasser? This bullet is longer than a typical 62 gr bullet. I don't know by how much, but if it's closer in length to a 75 ELDM, but with a shorter, lighter lead core, it may well want/need a significantly faster twist rate than 1:9.

Any update on these? I just got in 500, plan to shoot them in a few different rifles. First up will be the 223 bolt with a 7.7 twist then probably a 22-250 with an 8 twist that loves 80gr elds, so I have high hopes.

Also, did you weigh your bullets? I opened up a box as soon as I got them and couldn't find one that was 62.0 grain. Granted, just a charge master, but i trust its repeatability. I grabbed 25, 80% were 61.8, with equal distribution a tenth either way.

Nope sitting on a few hundred. As I heard they are too long for most 223. Ran them in a 22 arc for awhile. Good for prairie dogs and rabbits.

So they didn’t do so good out of the 20” gasser. I think they may like to be in the lands. Next will be a two powder load test in a 1/9 bolt gun.View attachment 1535775

Thx for your preliminary work up data. Pls keep updates going. Got 3 boxes of VT s coming for my 223 and anxious to test.

Plan to try TAC as I ve got a good supply of it and want to hang onto my H4895 and CFE223.

My modified mag will take up to 2.5” oal so will try them close to the lands like I run 75 s.

Do you mind if I ask are those modified magazines store bought, or did you modify them?

Did our own modification to spacer, removed, and shortened bolt stop. Also had to make a smaller spacer for back of magazine. Stand follower, even though it’s short now, feeds great.
