Hornady 338 ARC

All of these are interesting to consider but why stop at the .338 bullet?
I play with a .510 Whisper, WHAT……you mean a larger, heavier bullet that has many options and is widely available on the surplus market? Why yes I do.

JD Jones developed this cartridge and it’s been bigger in Australia and overseas than here but it offers a few things to consider when poking around in this adventure zone.

Bullets are available up to 860 grains and there is a variety of powder you can choose from because of the case size ( I’m using a .338 Lapua Mag case).
LRMP are available but the one item, probably much like most other “Wildcat” cartridges, that is the difficult item is the brass.

I have seen it on the market at ssk Industries and such or you can make it yourself. I sent a chamber mold to Ch4D and they cut a set of dies with brass dies. Expensive you say, why yes you would be right. But what the hell today isn’t, especially firearm related…….even the 10-22 has moved from the sub $100 to $400 buck……what the HELL!!!!!

So all in all, before you jump off into another “FAD” gun, look around and ask yourself a couple of questions. (1) what is this doing for me that I don’t already have or is it just another toy to play with and feeds my overwhelming desire to have one! (2) Could I use the funds for something more useful like a sex doll or a new car!

I hope I’ve added a bit of humor to your day by reading this and I for one would rather have a new toy than a sex doll but, just remember that life is a road that is best well traveled. I love my time working on developing and watching the fruits of my labor coming to reality. I’m now working on a load for some unknown lead bullets I bought for the 300 blk but I do have about 8 pounds of Trail Boss left so this one should be fun too!!!!

God bless!

Howdy !

Man…. not sure you’ll be able to put enough Trailboss in that .300BLK case ??

I tried Trailboss in .35 Remington under Remington .358” cal 150PSPs, and the case was full @ 14 grains.

For the .300 BLK:
Take a shot, then…. sit down and eat a ham sandwich…. while you wait for the bullet to make it down range !

With regards,

I got a Faxon barrel blank. Had one of their AR barrels 10 years ago, and it was pretty good. I'll report back but I wanted to support one of the "little guys" - I hear they're making M1 barrels now too

Did you get them to sell you an 8 tw blank? I ended up ordering a couple 8tw from Douglas and just was notified today they’re shipped. Rebarreling two Howa mini 7.62x39’s I got from a Brownell’s when they were too cheap to pass up.

Been contemplating what bolt action might do what I may like to see chambered for this cartridge . Thus far the best option I am seeing, loosely is to do a straight pull action on a AR lower if I understand the straight pull actions.

Other considerations include a cz527, Cz 600 or a Howa mini action. Guessing there must be other fine options, perhaps better options I have not yet considered.

Suppose I have not been inclined to do a semi auto in any caliber. I have been old school & gravitate towards walnut bolt action or bolt action on carbon fiber stocks thus far.

I was looking at an 8.6 for my DT. A suppressed barrel from SWS.
I have the .510 Whisper in the DT. So I figured what the hell. Haven’t contracted the 8.6 yet but thinking on it.
I have several bolt action and semi’s in 300 plus a couple integrally suppressed guns so I like playing with that round….

Got my barrel blank today (wow, that was fast) 1:3 5R - Scoped it. It looks good.

still waiting on resize dies.

Order direct from Lee? I am getting a little impatient with waiting on hornady
Yes.
