All of these are interesting to consider but why stop at the .338 bullet?
I play with a .510 Whisper, WHAT……you mean a larger, heavier bullet that has many options and is widely available on the surplus market? Why yes I do.
JD Jones developed this cartridge and it’s been bigger in Australia and overseas than here but it offers a few things to consider when poking around in this adventure zone.
Bullets are available up to 860 grains and there is a variety of powder you can choose from because of the case size ( I’m using a .338 Lapua Mag case).
LRMP are available but the one item, probably much like most other “Wildcat” cartridges, that is the difficult item is the brass.
I have seen it on the market at ssk Industries and such or you can make it yourself. I sent a chamber mold to Ch4D and they cut a set of dies with brass dies. Expensive you say, why yes you would be right. But what the hell today isn’t, especially firearm related…….even the 10-22 has moved from the sub $100 to $400 buck……what the HELL!!!!!
So all in all, before you jump off into another “FAD” gun, look around and ask yourself a couple of questions. (1) what is this doing for me that I don’t already have or is it just another toy to play with and feeds my overwhelming desire to have one! (2) Could I use the funds for something more useful like a sex doll or a new car!
I hope I’ve added a bit of humor to your day by reading this and I for one would rather have a new toy than a sex doll but, just remember that life is a road that is best well traveled. I love my time working on developing and watching the fruits of my labor coming to reality. I’m now working on a load for some unknown lead bullets I bought for the 300 blk but I do have about 8 pounds of Trail Boss left so this one should be fun too!!!!
God bless!
