Hornady 25 Cal 138gr A-Tip

Hornady is bringing another new heavy for caliber 25 cal bullet to the table with the just released 138gr A-Tip. They have nearly a .700 G1 BC and .350 G7

When I talked to them awhile back I joked and said it'd be pretty nice if they made a 140gr .257 A-Tip with a .700 G1 BC

It's not quite 140gr or .700 but it's pretty darn close and I think I can live with 138gr and a .695

Might have to try in the 25 SAUM improved being built currently with a 7 twist
Curious, why did you go all the way to a 7tw, barrel availability or???

I have a 25 SAUM, regular not an improved version, that should be done next week and I'm using an Bartlein 5R 8tw to shoot the 134 ELD-M. My elevation starts at 2000ft so I can get away with a little less twist but even at sea level and these new 138's 7.5tw is about the fastest I would go.

I have a 25 Saum Improved, 25x47L, 257 Roberts and a 257 Bob AI, all of them have slower twists, set up for lighter bullets. This bullet may motivate me to get something built That would shoot them. Good job Hornady

Straight from Hornady,
"Thank you for reaching out. Our hope is to have it available and shipping to retail stores in December, maybe. We appreciate your interest and support. Thank you."

You put in the numbers and get a stability factor of 1.55 give or take.
With 1.475 length, .350 BC7 and a twist of 7.5

Just in time for my next Pronghorn hunt.

7.5 or 8 twist 257 Weatherby ….?? Hummm …. 3200-3300 fps if barrel 26/27” + ….
With powders like N570 or RL33 I think seeing at or near 3300 in a 257 Wby with 26in tube would be doable.

The 25-7PRC is a near ballistic twin to the 257 Wby and those guys are seeing 3300 fairly easy with the Berger 135's in 24in barrels so an equally setup 257 Wby should match it.

I'm at 3150 comfortably with these bullets in my 25-284. Accurate as well.
That sounds really good. How long of a barrel are you using?

Hornady's heavy for caliber 25 cal bullets seem to shoot extremely well. I have some of the new A-Tip 138's on the shelf but so far only shot the 134 ELD-M in my 25 SAUM and they're going 3190 out of a 22in 8tw Bartlein and stacking them up in to tiny little groups.
