Hornady 105gr BTHP match

Details
Item Number 2458
Ballistic Coefficient (G1) .530
Sectional Density .254

Price: $29.87

Checked out the Hornady web site on this latest products. Look at the posted G1 BC they are claiming. Quite amazing!

Berger is posting .493 G1 for there 105 BT non VLD bullet and a .545 BC for the big 115gr VLD. I know I know this is the G1 and not the more accurate G7 profile.

Im thowing out the BS flag on Hornady with this one. Ill eat crow if this bullet has as high as BC as the 115 DTAC and 115gr VLD....

The DTAC comes pointed now. I believe the old BC that Brian came up with was .544. The new 1 may not be what Tubb's states, but I would bet not far off. Now for the 105 Hornaday BTHP, I've shot them out to 850 and they shot about as well as my unpointed DTAC's. The new DTAC is worth looking at. Russ if you have to eat crow, post a video... ;D

Hmmm.... Litz shows G1's for several 243's in this weight range: Berger's 105BT 0.493, 105 VLD 0.532, 108BT 0.511, 115 VLD 0.545; DTAC 115 BTHP (non-pointed I think) 0.540, Hornady's 105 AMAX 0.492.

I'll take it with a "grain of salt" until I can get some to test in my hardware, see how they shoot.

No end of choices for bullets now in this class.

Can i put Pete's Red Hot sauce on it??? shakin the bush boss shakin the bush. Damn now im THAT GUY!

I was looking at Bergers Web sight with the 115grVLD posted at .545, and picked out Litz's G1 for the DTAC and it was as Donald shows .544
I still think this is a bit optomistic but maybe not to the extent that the BS flag has be run full mast. : )

Here is a picture of the 105 Nosler Custom Comp, 105gr Hornady BTHP, 107gr SMK, and 105gr Berger VLD Match. ( plus some others) Placed and order from Powder valley so I thought I would get some for testing... Hard to beat the price.

I tried a couple of boxes, at 600 the come up is exactly the same as my107 load, they shoot really well in my BRX, think I paid about 19 bucks a box for them.

Did you shoot a good score Gary. Any thoughts on how they shot in your rifle?

I paid just under $20 a box ( 100) from Powder valley about $5 dollers a box less than all the other bullets i purchased that day. ( except the 87gr ones) $10 a box cheaper than the 90gr Berger! If I buy a couple thousand for the summer shooting season that adds up real fast.

Shot a 200-17x with em at 600 ;) they didn't like to be jammed, I'm jumping them .030, getting some more

Russ, thanks for that pic... saved me some $$ I'd otherwise spent on yet more bullets & shipping....

Looks like the Hornady 105's bearing surface is even longer than that of the 107SMK (0.392" Litz 2nd ed. p. 360) and Berger 105VLD (0.379" same source)? Meplats might benefit from uniforming / pointing up too... (note to self - borrow back Whidden tooling) and shorter OAL than the other two?

All credit of the picture goes to my Buddy Doug. ( hows that Doug?)

Steve are you pointing your bullets for 600yds? I tested at 600 and 1000 yards with a pointing die and found that for the amount of time I put into pointing vs the result on the target at 600 was not worth my time. At 1000 yards that was a difrent story. ( .224- 80gr SMK )

As long as they shoot in the X ring im good to go. ( saying if I find a good load for that bullet)

Pretty much what you said....

I had a bunch of Lapua 105 Scenars I wanted to use up (when I ran low on Berger 105 VLD's last season) so I pointed those before loading for the 600 mid-range matches in the last half of last season. They shot just as good as unpointed Bergers.

I can understand why you'd want to put everything you can into shooting .224 80's out to 1k :o

G1 BCs are no more than an eye catcher, kinda like chrome plated plastic. The G7 BC is what you really need to pay attention to for such aero dynamic rifle bullets.
