A cap pistol is probably enough in most instances. The intruder is usually a coward and will run when confronted by anything.
The point I was trying to make is that inside a house a shotgun is still one hole, though a little bigger around than most metallic rounds. I think a lot of people are under the impression that they just need to point the shotgun in the general direction and the pattern will fill a doorway and that is not normally the case.I’m a rifle guy. Yeh I hunt upland birds abit. A pistol may be more quick and handy but they require lots of practice. I don’t think most people are. If your a well practiced pistol guy that’s great. I’d shoot myself. Also I don’t care about pattern size, just a hit! Lazer flashlight. P.S. ARs go through to many walls.

Next level of "Bringing a knife to a gunfight?"Here's another twist....Machete !! I had mine out this morning

What udder non-sense!In Australia we are prohibited by law from having firearms for self defence. Firearms licenced for other lawful purposes (hunting, target shooting, occupational pest control etc) are required to be stored unloaded in a locked safe with the bolt removed or action broken. Ammunition must be stored in a seperate locked container. This means that a licenced gun owner who obeys the storage laws would not be able to use their firearm for self defence even if they needed to as by the time they managed to retrieve firearm and ammo and get to a firing condition the threat would be over (in a bad way). Tasers and pepper spray are prohibited weapons in all Australian States with draconian penalties for posession.
One must even be careful when commenting on forums such as this as expressing discontent with the law could be used by law enforcement as a reason to consider you no longer a 'fit and proper' person to have firearms. The mere expression of wanting to be able to own firearms for self defence could cost someone their licence and guns. Just think about that for a moment! It might make your own day just a little bit brighter.
It still becomes a deadly weapon when used as one Fuj.Here's another twist....Machete !! I had mine out this morning

I agree. In any class I taught or attended on the subject limited light use is preached. Also, if you are in your own home, you have a tactical advantage by knowing where things are in the dark. If you must hit the light close your dominate eye and pulse the light. That will save your night vision somewhat. The best item to use are your ears and assess the situation before going to the light. But you must illuminate before engaging any target to make damn sure you aren`t going to shoot a family member.Constant light gives your position away and also takes your natural night vision away.
