Great Discussion, glad it has continued..

I have been chewing on Mr. Biggs point of setting wind zero off to the left at 100 yards.. Been kinda embarrased to ask why..... :-[ Been trying to grow a larger pair to ask someone...

But the continued discussion has illuminated a big light bulb for me.. Thanks

When we as a group of shooters seeking information ( that is why we visit this place seeking knowledge) and a successful shooter like Danny Biggs is willing to share some of the information that has helped him become that success, we should listen and look hard at that information and maybe a way to make "US" more successful. Danny Biggs has obviously got some of this stuff figured out. He has won Two F/TR National Championships back to back, he is shooting on the US team this year I believe as well. he also finished 3rd in the 2010 F-Open Nationals when he broke the National record held by Charles Ballard at a 1,000 yds, shooting 2 relays of 200-15X, I believe that his total X count in that match was 67 x's.

I also like the fact that some want to question information that is how we all learn. Learning is never been about the "Answer" it is always about the question. Many, many times we don't even know what question to ask. This true zero of 3/4 of an inch at a 100 yds is something I never even thought about. See folks it's the question. This is something I will look hard at in the coming matches. Luckily or maybe unluckily I shoot against Mr. Biggs at the Tullahoma, Tn 1,000 yrd matches.

I used to do all my practice in the field on a painted white 5ft diameter steel plate at 1300 yards. In the center of the plate was a 13" circle drawn with a magic marker about 3/4" thick so it could be easily seen. This setup gave us instant feedback as the shots put a black spot from our 30 cal magnums. On a calm day we would put 1 min of left in our scopes to compensate for the drift at that range. I think in the absence of a camera that a similar scaled down setup would work well for getting a true zero for a person working alone on a specific distance. Mike

My 308 200yd zero is one minute right of my 100yd zero with 175-178gr bullets. My 500yd zero is in line vertically with my 200yd zero. Could the bulk of the effect occur in the first hundred yds?
