How many rounds of 45-70 would a pound bottle of that stuff cover for your load? :oops:

Just so you will know, I went through the Natchez check out procedure on a single one pounder of 4198, and the total cost with hazmat, tax, and cost is $115.27.
Jackie,
Different locations must be the difference but mine was slightly higher than yours

@bozo699
Wayne I’m glad you got hooked up with at least that much. Keep your eye on the place we chatted about earlier as well.
Jim

well if
a person has a 45/70 marlin 1895 or a Ruger #3 he probably doesnt wanna shoot to many at a time so a pound will last ya a long time. i forgot what powder i use in the 45/70
i saw PV had H1000
I have 3 45/70’s two of them I don’t shoot much and use 3031 in them but my 1886 Winchester is a joy to shoot. Wouldn’t want it for a bench gun but it’s heavy enough and fits me well it’s pretty easy to shoot even with the 405’s

Thanks Jim I sure will! I got 4lbs today. I want more but this will tied me over a while. Bruno’s cancelled my 5lb jug of RL7 which bummed me out as they showed they had 1 but apparently not. I’m not short on powder just don’t want to get that way.

Need I mention why I bought a couple pistol caliber lever guns ? A#9 is pretty cheap and only use 20.6 grains per load.

youre letters are tiny for some reason — thanks for the info- i had the 30/30 out today though and it wasnt to bad.
I was whispering. I had a #1 in 45/70 and sold it because of the recoil or my age. You pick.
Sorry, the dog had to go out.

I love to shoot the old 45/70, but the recoil was a bit much. Reduced loads helped but then 4198 became scarce. I’m saving it for my 30brs so I looked for a solution and bought a Marlin lever in 44 Magnum. I liked it so much, I bought the Rossi in 45 Colt. I am having a ball with them! Heavy loads use between 20 to 24 grains of A#9, which is easy to find. I’m getting 15 to 1700 FPS with a 250 grain bullet . Lite load shooting turns them into BB gun recoil. Plated bullets are cheap and I can load 10 to 12 in the tube magazine. Take my word for it, these little big bores are a ton of fun!
