Got a little caught in the Pandemic shortages because I just didn't have the available funds to do a "stocking up" at the time . And my Manufacturer went out of Business and got sold , and on and on with that whole deal . But I decided to make it aware that I was looking for a certain brand of primer , quietly , on the forums , and when other members would say they had "that" brand of primer , I would contact them through a PM and managed to build up my primer shortage thru dealing with the members here . You just have to use a little initiative . and the members here will help out when they can .

Ok. Good idea. Any one have any Win WLR primers or CCI 200's they wanna sell? Not gonna hold my breath! LOL

Call me what you want, but don't call me...."you ran out"....When I bought this case in 2010 for $700 I had a decent supply. Usually go through at least a couple hundred a year. I paid $125 per 100 this January....could have borrowed money, paid interest, and still been ahead.... besides, I was a Boy Scout. I've found that people that call others hoarders don't plan ahead very well or they are new to the sport. . As far as the money, we all have to prioritize.20230721_175223.jpg

I'm sick to death with people caught short and claiming someone is a hoarder. If you weren't smart enough to see what it was like starting In the 90's it's on you. And for those who'll say " I wasn't shooting or reloading then" it's happened several times since. Instead of calling someone a hoarder pull your head out of the sand and pay attention. Voting right helps too! You do vote don't you????

I learned my lesson when Clinton was elected. Primers were scarce for a minute and so I started to keep a years worth of primers and powder on the shelf.

Then Sandy Hook happened and it required 3-4 years for things to get back to normal. Today it may take 5 years. Is that hoarding or being prepared if I were to keep 5 years worth of components on the shelf?
I was 4 pistol primers. didnt want to shoot up what i had on hand with what was going on. So I waited it out and now I am stocking up according to my wallet. The "Old Timers" had this figured out and I just recently caught on........LOL

I bought these out of desperation (had a weak momunet) havent shot them yet. Anyone tried these?

So I guess the question to ask ourselves should be is it really hoarding or just proper planning? Would you leave on vacation knowing you didn’t have enough gas to reach your destination also knowing the gas stations may all be closed along the way?

I’m tired of the word hoarding being thrown around. Thank goodness I had enough powder and primers available to help some friends out during this period of tight distribution. Personally, I am currently testing alternative powders and sharing what I learn, as I learn it.

Components are neither readily available nor cheap but blaming it on someone else, simply because they prioritized their spending differently than you did, doesn’t make them a hoarder, it actually makes you a poor planner. Now the exception to this would be new shooters just getting into the game. We should all be trying to help them out, but anyone who has reloaded ammo for a while should have seen this coming and been prepared. History does repeat itself.

I’m sorry if this offends you as you read this, but it’s how I feel and if the truth hurts, it hurts. I have just had it with people trying to blame others for their lack of proper planning.

Dave.

Or call me a hoarder if you prefer.
Curious what even prompted you to post this?? I buy what I can find and as much as I can afford. If I had more funds, I’d have 100 pounds of Viht powder on the shelf. Screw what anyone else says. Most of the time those people are merely red-assed because they can’t afford to buy more themselves. I stopped caring what those type of people said a long time ago.

I’ve just had about enough of people always trying to blame someone else instead of taking responsibility for their own actions, or in this case, lack of action. It seems like the new norm in this country and its not a good norm. I expect it out of kids but not adults.

Dave.

So basically this thread is split between those that HAVE and those that HAVE NOT, those that prepared and those that didn’t, those that money is no object and those that money is an object
That’s life in a nutshell !!! Always has been that way and always will be that way.
I’ve been blessed with some of all of the above.

Yeah......I got to quit drinkin and searching out primers...lol...hope they go bang!
Haha. I literally laughed out loud when I just read that. I can just picture guys getting drunk and searching for primers inside of drunk texting their ex’s. Lol

Trust me, I have very little expendable income, but what little I do have goes toward shooting and shooting supplies. I’m smart enough to realize that powder, bullets and primers are not likely to regress to pricing from 5 years ago. Components will likely get more and more expensive, history has told us this time and time again.

Dave, we are definitely thinking along the same lines, it just sounds like you may have more resources than I do to buy components. I buy everything I can, when I’m able to do so, and like I said, if I could afford to have 100 pounds of powder on the shelf, you’re damn right I would.

In 2017 the ice broke and jammed up at the bridge then backed water up, I had 3’ in my barn and loading room. Lots of stuff got damaged some lost that floated down the river but fortunately my powder was in totes and up so it didn’t get damaged! I pulled it out later to cleanup the water damage and sand! Thank goodness most of my primers and a lot more powder was up at the house and not in the flood zone. Unfortunately I did lose 5 five gallon buckets clear full of CCI standard velocity 22 shells they were in my machine shed and they set a long time full of water but I guess I have enough powder in just my loading room to be considered a hoarder hahaha… so be it I guess I am
