I like owners that dont gouge there customers. I understand paying more if they did to get it. I have gotten some stuff at sportsman's over last few months. There prices have not gone up much. I paid 3 dollars more for 1 lb of powder. The place i normally get it from is at $50 for that same pound. I know they need to make a buck, but i will remember that when things come back around.Unfortunately, some have decided to do what is being described. I had Remington core-loct 165 gr 30 06 on my shelf earlier this week. $25 a box. I will not do that to my customers. I hope they remember it. I am having to source powder wherever I can and prices are up at my shop $8 to $10 a lb. Nobody seems to complain if I have it. In any case I am making the same markup as last year, and the year before.
I applaud you Sir. Refreshing to see these days Rebel.I am a staunch defender of small Local Gun Shops
I also stopped at LL Bean Freeport store yesterday. They had some rifle ammo, but most in calibers not in too much favor these days....257 Bob, 250 Savage and the like. Some 300 WIn Mag. Absolutely NO 308, 270, 30-06, 30-30. Their prices are what I would consider fair given the current situation. Lots of shotgun shells by the box.
I went to the MIDWAYUSA site a couple of nights back just to see what was/is available. Common rifle ammo, most of it was between $2-3.00 a round, the I got to the 338 Lapua. It was almost $8.00 every time you pull the trigger. I can remember when the 50BMG stuff was ONLY half that or less. Most everything goes is controlled by and fluctuates with market demand. Oil as an example is around $60-65.00 a barrel, it wasn't that far back when it hit $0.00 for a few days. When/if supply catches up with demand we may see some price rollbacks, until then if you want it, you gotta pay for it.I was a a shop last week and they had Privi 30-30 ammo for $50.00 a box, that was about as bad as i've seen.
Still in demand, just got to deal with the right people, SASS. I load for them too.44-40 ammo has always been expensive. I had one, great round. Hard to imagine now. I wonder if they are even being produced now with the demand of more popular ammo.
