Rope to start pony motor on D4 but a crank to start the pony on the power units like our D13000. You had better know what you were doing or you may get your wrist broke. You only gave it a quarter turn on the up stroke.
I have had the motor kick back a couple of times and about dislocated a shoulder. Ouch. Getting the pup to start is the big thing. If it;s running, the diesel WILL start. Might have to crank for a while but it will start. After starting, the operation is a little different than with the more modern equipment as well and after a long day, I'm a little tired, to be honest. WH
