Henry Rifles, "Go or Show"?

I bought my wife a 22lr golden boy about 20 years ogo and just loves it.

ps she still has it nib never been shot lol

If i were to get one it would be the case hardened 38-55. Would make such an excellent LP MI brush gun.

My experience is with the Big Boy carbine in .357 mag. My impression is the it's an excellent rifle and is more accurate than the Rossi in .357. Feeding and extraction have been nothing short of excellent. Someone mentioned earlier they use pot metal alloy.....This is true of the rimfires but not the centerfire lever actions. They're all steel receivers.

I have fired thousands of rounds through a big boy steel .357 rifle. I replaced a firing pin and an ejector, but I have no complaints and it's still running fine. Marlins and Winchesters break parts, too. The rimfire guns are not built as heavily, but they hold up to lot of use also.

Well I guess I'm going to be the odd one out again.

I bought a Big Boy in .357Mag several years ago. It never shot to my liking even with a 4x scope on it. I decided to determine why and eventually slugged the barrel.

I found constructions where every sight and magazine mounting dovetail were located as well as where the roll stamping was. After several hours hand lapping the barrel the constructions were removed and it shot a great deal better but was still a 4MOA rifle @100 yds. I sold it and do not plan to buy another. That's partly because I decided since then I'm not a fan of lever action rifles anyway.

Just my $.02 based on what I experienced and worth exactly what you paid for that.

Had a minor experience with a friends' lever Henry. Don't remember the caliber but you had to forcefully pull the lever up with your trigger hand while adding pressure to the trigger. Let that lever pressure off and the lever dropped a bit, opening up some kind of trigger block and stopping the hammer from being released by the sear.

Royal PIA.

I wonder how big a market there is for 44's vs a chambering such as a 307 WIn, for instance or a number of other chamberings that might be more appealing to a wider section of the population?

I don't have any experience with their centerfire rifles, but have worked on the rimfires a fair bit.
The die cast cartridge guides are the weakest link I've seen so far. I haven't had to replace any yet, just extreme wear for the number of rounds fired.
Not aware of any weak links in a 9422. Overengineered to a fault.

looks like @ 20gr 2400 with a 240gr nosler or sierra. LP non mag
crimp for sure

what load data ya running?
i have Alliant 2400 ,

I bought a .357 big loop steel boy several years ago. Put about 100 rounds through it, right about the time my cataracts started getting really bad. Couldn't see the irons so I bought the scope base, that's about as far as it's got! :)

Rem06, I might be willing to let it go.

Don't have a Henry, been eye-balling them for a number of years, but have decided that my two Winchester 94/22's do all I want for rimfire lever guns, and my Winchester/Miroku M1892 and JM Marlin 1894 in 44 Mags do all I want or need for 'big-bore' lever guns.

The Miroku Winnie M92 is fit and finished like a custom rifle. That factory really knows how to put a shotgun or rifle together IMHO.

The Henry president really extols the virtues of his rifles being all made in the USA with all US materials. That's fine and dandy, but a close examination of the Miroku/Winchester M92 might be of benefit to him for future consideration.
