Henderson Power Trimmer

How long did it take you to develop your rhythm with loading the collet, trimming, and repeating? I hate to admit it, but it seems to be fighting me a bit. I'm a pretty well coordinated in-synch type a guy. I'm sure after I do my first 1K, I'll have it down, right???

Practice, practice, practice!
Find a comfortable pace, if you start rushing it you may very well discover that you ruined some brass.

Try and make sure it's mounted at a comfortable height, like waist height.

Mine is mounted on my reloading bench so about 33” high. I either stand or sit on tall stool slightly to the left side. I found that by positioning myself more side-saddle I get better feel for case being squarely seated as well as improved visual during trimming.

My left hand is focused on squarely seating cases into the collet jaws. My right hand never leaves the shuttle handle. It’s focused on tightening & releasing the jaws as well as pushing the shell shuttle forward for trimming the case.

The cases needing trimming are placed the on the bench top on left side of trimmer. Underneath the case shuttle I place an elevated bucket to capture the newly trimmed cases. After trimming I release the jaws and let them drop free as I am preparing to place the next case into the jaws.

Hopefully this helps

It takes no time at all to get a rhythm going. Once you have the length set you should already have a system that works. There's basically no learning curve to using it.

You have either a God given talent, or I'm not as coordinated or in-synch as I thought I was. ;)

Sounds like everything I'm doing, except for the elevated bucket. I like that idea. I will conquer this machine!

I have an APP press set up as dedicated decapping station. I found an aftermarket funnel that is used with a nylon clothe sleeve to drop cases into a container on the floor (see photo). I might need to look into 3D printing something similar to suspend off bin hanger on the Henderson.

I was wondering if you added a foot controll to shut the trimmer off and mount the case in the trimmer .

Well that’s your problem. You don’t have enough crap on your table

One thing to keep in mind is that only loosening the handle enough for the brass to drop. That way you know you’re in the right depth on the collet. Once it drops I set the next one and put pressure on the neck end with my index finger while I tighten the handle. I can honestly do 100 pieces in less than 10 minutes.

I finally found my rhythm after doing 500 pcs. Lickety-split, they were done! I didn't time myself, but I'm guessing an hour or so. I can handle 400 to 500 an hour for a newbie.

Throughout the process, I would check the case length. On the money every time!

Totally happy with the Henderson!

The time loss usually comes from not having the brass to be trimmed conveniently positioned, a place to put it quickly when completed - and the time spent getting the brass base square into the collet. One doesn't turn off the machine to load another piece of brass, so the foot pedal might save 2 seconds on a whole batch of brass.
