I have a 22-250 I bought used, it has a 1-16 twist heavy 26" barrel, mauser 98. I can't get any better than 1.25" at 100 yds with 5 shot grp. I'm using 55gr hornady v-max with 38 gr hodgdon. I just had it glass bedded & using a 6x24x42 sightron.Should I be using a lighter bullet? Did anybody ever here of a twist like this in a 22-250?

My 22-250 1 in 14" twist 24",standard Rem light barrel) won't stabilize 60 gr bullets, so 55gr may be about at the limits of stabilization at best in your 1 in 16" barrel.

I would definitely try Nosler 50 gr Ballistic Tips and their 40 gr BTs as well. The guy that specified the 1 in 16" twist wanted to shoot bullet weights down to and including 40 gr, and was happy with an upper weight of 50 gr or so. Not a bad approach, fun to be had that way. Enjoy.

Thank you, I am going to try the 40 gr v-max & see. I did find out that douglas made a 1-16 twist in the 22-250.

Do try the Nosler 40gr Ballistic Tips in a direct comparison,i.e. all other components the same) with the Hornady 40 gr VMaxes. You may be well pleased that you took the time to compare them.

If the Nosler CT Ballistic Silvertips are available in 40gr at your gunstore, take those over the Nosler Ballistic Tips.

Thank you, I will pick up a box of nosler 40gr ball tip & compare. I didn't realize the rifle was a 1-16 twist. when I bought it i assumed it was a 1-14. i should have remembered the old rule!
