Help to identify holes in yard

Had a hole similar to this next to Rose Bushes; sat nearby as sun set and watched about 50 Yellow Jackets returned to it.
I poured 3 pints of 90% isopropyl alcohol down the hole, and as mentioned above, capped it with a big shot of expanding foam.
One week later dug out a nest that spanned one foot square but only about 5” below the surface. Incredible amount of larvae and yet more Yellow Jackets.
TalStar will take care of most things it uses nicotine

did the alcohol kill all/most of the YJ?

I waited almost a week before digging it up, and yes, all were dead. Whether by asphyxiation or poisoning them, I am uncertain. Thought about lighting the hole upon dumping the alcohol in, but did not want a horde of flaming Kamikazes coming after me.:).
good idea and great result! I have a fair amount of wasps in my backyard, I give them a wide berth and move slowly. I absolutely would try to kill a bunch in one event like you did.

Those ARE just like the yellow jacket holes we found under my bucked wood stack last night. 2 of our family group were severely stung. I used 4 cans of spray on the area. They just kept coming out of the loose ground around the pile. They chased them 50 yards to the house.

I try to avoid conflict, including flying, stinging things that live underground, but when I have been forced to deal with them I pour kerosene in the hole and light it. It hasn't failed me yet.

And if you live in FL, LA, MS, PA, or any state with coal mines, land fills, drained swamps (buried dead trees), etc., you might get a visit from the authorities.

Just saying...

I am sure those are worm holes to the other side of the galaxy, Be very careful around them or you will find yourself on the planet Vulcan!
