Help to identify holes in yard

These are two holes in my yard. About 24” part and about 2” in diameter. I have a trail camera set up but no luck. I don’t thinks yellow jackets because no activity while standing next to hole. Vegetation around hole gone.

Holes too small for it to be hogdastards but about perfect for crilliferds.
Although, it may be pilot holes for the Chinese Invasion of South Carolina.

Tarantula wasps usually kick their dirt out more to one side when digging it out, more than that shows.

Im thinking chipmunk, but maybe some insect, given the debris around it?

Not mole , no tunnels or runs, not gopher , dirt not mounded up, or pushed out.

True story , kid I went to hi school with owned a cabin on a lake, he went up for the weekend ,had piece of pipe attached to 20 lb propane bottle. Stuck the pipe inside multiple gopher holes and mole tunnels. Could not leave well enough alone , took a burning rag ,and set off the entire mess, including his septic system.

He wont talk that about that subject anymore.

Seriously though I’m going to say you have Voles. Like giant moles but you will not find the mounds that moles make. They are omnivores. They eat grass and grass roots among other plants. Are there any droppings in that bare area around the holes? Are there any pieces of chewed off grass leading down into the tunnel?

On my property, those would be chipmunk holes. Little buggers all over the place and dig a lot of holes for dens in late summer. The ones around here seldom leave debris around the holes, much like it appears to be the case with the holes you show.
