Help seeing 22cal holes @ 200Y

Ok, like the title says I shoot 223 @ 200Y. The only way (so far) for me to see 200Y impacts is with the aid of a "splatter style" target. Scope is a Midas Tac 25x and my Eyes are just about 60y old.

Would perhaps a small 1/2" black dot on white parchment / heavy stock paper work?

For the cost of say a Sightron SVIII (40x) I could rebarrel the rifle and make bigger holes!

Thanks guys!!

It's always easier for me to see holes on white paper. Anytime color becomes part of the equation, as in target centers etc., I can't see holes. Even multiple holes together.

I use white background colored targets the majority of the time for this reason. I also use a mid priced spotting scope that makes it easier (NOT easy peezzz) to see the 22 cal holes at 200yds.

Well guys thanks for all your advice.
So... I purchased some white cardstock (forget the weight... maybe 150lb?). Drew some black 1" circles on it.
Perfect!
Nice round even holes to measure. If the impact is in the black it's very difficult to see. Outside the black are very easy to see.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas all!!!

I detest black targets, but, even with a red one, I couldn't spot a double at 200 one day, 32 cal. That was 34yrs back, when my vison was a lot better than now. Maybe at 60, you don't want to spend the loot for a big spotter, but, it really is worth it, bought a Kowa 77 34 yrs ago, I cringed at the price back then, but I have never regretted it. And, if it's doable at 60, get it now, you've stiil got years of shooting ahead of you and will thank yourself in the long run. Can always keep your eye open for a used one too.

Here are some ideas you may or may not have thought of, and may or may not like. If you have a straight thru feed ink jet printer, it should print #110 paper which is the same as you are using or very close. Make your targets up on any graphic program or even in WORD. What ever color you like or even black, increase the brightness and it will print grey instead of black. It's easier to see bullet holes in grey than black and the same principle with color bulleye's. If you reduce the ink to much the bullseye will be difficult to see during overcast days which isn't good so there is a happy medium. This also saves on ink. If your printer isn't a straight thru feed, print on any whit copy paper and when you staple or tape the target to the backer board put a sheet of #110 paper between the target and backer and you will get nice cut holes.

I have printed my targets for decades. I make the shape I want and size I want. I print several bulleye's on an 11x17" sheet, but it takes a larger printer for that size printer, or I print them on standard 8.5x11 letter size sheets.

Bullet hole usually show up best on a lighter background like while or off white. Magnification obviously helps a lot but has it own pro's and con's. 40x is not the absolute minimum but is about what I prefer as oppsed to the big mag scopes available today. 24x is marinal, 36x is sufficient and about 40-48 is my personal max for BR. The field of view starts getting too small to see the flags in br if you go much bigger than that. Reticle style plays a role too. I love the March LR reticle...fwiw..

If you range lets you go beyond 200yd, get a Shotmarker. Even at 200 you will get more data and wont have to fool with paper targets.

Buy a good scope vortex goldeneagle hd 15x60 power or a nightforce competition 15x55 you'll see holes at 500 yards

The fly on the target is at 500 yards. Seen with target camera. Its a private range so we can set up and be done for the day without interfering with other shooters.

I use the paper reinforcing rings from Staples on the back of blueprint sheets. I take a whole sheet of these rings and use various colored felt markers to color them. This makes a target that is pretty easily seen at 200 yds.

White bottom and dark colored top paper plates shooting the bottom side works very well. The empty space inside the plate makes it a natural splatter target. You will see a dark spot on the white plate.

Care to share details on your home made setup?

I laid out all the details and even showed my setup in a video in this other thread... I have a few different versions for different scenarios (cell service vs no cell service) all explained here
