Please tell me what I have. I purchased a Remington 40X in 222. It is stamped on the left side XBR with a 20" stainless barrel in 222. It has a McMillan 3" forearm fiberglass stock. The serial #is 0472XX-B. Please tell me what I have - the value - year made - and anything else. IT IS IN MINT COND. THANKS

It's practically worthless but being the kind a guy I am I'll give you $200 for it because I feel bad you getting taken and all.... ::)
Can't give you particulars however nice score!

value well over $1000 depending on how honest the buyer is.

Bob

Bob is crazy! I will give ya $300 though! ;) :D

You have a 40XBR, likely made in the 90's, and it is a fine rifle. And even though bob is crazy, I will admit it is valued at well over $1000. I see them for sale in the $1500 range. It will be a fine shooter.

The XBR's are all from the custom shop. I don't think that stock is the original one. The only synthetic stock was the Kevlar stocked model and those stocks were made by HS Precision. However if it has a Remington marked recoil pad or butt plate, then it's probably the original stock. Value in mint condition about $2000 with the original stock, if it has a 2 oz. trigger add $300. The Kevlar stocked model is going for almost $3000 with the 2 oz. trigger. If you have the original box with matching serial number, add another $200! Bore must be mint to achieve these prices. Very few have mint bores! Manufactured 1987 to 2007. The 40XBBR is the most desirable for collectors and shooters!

jcm24m, if you would like, I've got a two page article from "American Rifleman" about the 40XBR in .222 Rem., that I could send a copy of for the price of ummmm -- nuthin.(not a penny less) The article is from January 1970. PM me with your addy if interested.

My rifle is probably a little later than yours, judging by the serial number, and maybe someone could tell us about the actual years. Seems like I had pegged mine somewhere in the mid to late seventies. Mine is chambered in 22BR. jd

LCazador - Yes, It has a 2 oz trigger as measured on my digital LYMAN tool. I'm not sure on a McMillan brand of stock, but it is synthetic and has a factory REMINGTON butt plate. THANKS for your input. JCMM

See attached link. The pictured green synthetic stocks were made for Remington by McMillan.

PS: Check left side of barrel just forward of the receiver for barrel code that will let you date(month/year) the rifle. See following link.

Manufacture date can be ascertained as previously mentioned by barrel code stamping
also
A Rem Custom Shop rifle can be dated by calling the Custom Shop w/ serial number to identify-
'smith that assembled the rifle
