I hate to say this but what can a .25cal do, the 6.5 can do better?
Until the last few years, IMO, nothing because as you mentioned the bullet selection for 25 cals, at least with regard to anything resembling high BC, was pretty much nonexistent.

But, then those 131 Blackjack bullets came out and they gave the shooting world a glimpse of what a 25 cal could be then Berger and Hornady introduced some high BC mid 130 grainers which, welllllll, you know how us goofy gun folks are with new products and the wheels started spinning on all the new cartridges we could create.

I mentioned this in a different post the other day, it doesn't need to be a "good" or even "better" idea we can pretty much talk ourselves in to anything if it means we get to build something new.

To your point comparing say a 6.5 PRC shooting 147 ELD-M vs 25 PRC shooting the 134 ELD-M or 135 Berger, ballistically, they pretty much mirror themselves. The 25 may have a slight advantage with regard to recoil but I can't imagine it would be much.

Not trying to vear your topic but doesn't 7mm have better B.C then 308..i guess i could get up and simply look in the back of a loading book...i love the 25 cal..
That poor 6mm br case keeps getting reworked..i give it about 5 more years before its blown so forward there no case neck left you just stick bullet in the hole and crimp hahahaha

How about the 257 blackjack...just seen that one..looks good
I think that's some kind of shortened wildcat off of the 6.5 SAUM case. I don't want to work that hard so I'm building just a straight necked down 25 SAUM to shoot the Hornady 134's.

Another that would be pretty fun and about a ballistic twin to the 257 Weatherby would be a 25-7PRC. Depending on barrel length you should be able to launch the 133, 134, and 135's somewhere in the 3400-3400+ range.

That actually sounds pretty cool. .
I see they can push 25's up at 3300fps ..hahaha..thats amazing. you might as well have 2 barrels chambered at the same time. I know its add cost
I had that done on a rifle of mine and its really nice to know i have a brand new barrel in my safe ready to thread on when everr i see fit..it saves alot of time and cost in the long run.
I think by the rime that next barrel is shot out i wont be able to see any more and will be done shooting anyway...hahaha just a thought
Most of the time when i want a barrel it ends up needed to be ordered..(oh we have everything but the one you want..6 months please) most places will let you pay on your barrel order long as its paid off before your product ships, they dont care..money promised is almost good as money gotten in the buisness world. So it can help ease the pain of barrel purchase..just ask when you order..get two barrels if barrel life is short in your new hot rod...if your gonna own a race car..your gonna need back up parts to keep in the race is my rhinking.

I need help choosing my next PRS cartridge. I want to shoot a 130 class .257 caliber bullet. Decision is made on that.

The question is which parent case should I base it on, and why? Top importance is quality brass. Also, I do have a pretty good stock of LRPs so if the case accommodates, that is a plus for me.

Thanks in advance,
Chris
I would go 25 284 i have build quit a few of them haven't shot the heavy bullets manly shoot 100 gr serria psp we run them around 3400 to 3500 fps the builds i have out there have taken everything from groundhog to elk and a bear or 2 with the 100gr bullet i would like to try some of the heavier bullets to see what I could get out of them what ever u go with get the right twist n have it through for the bullet u want to happy shooting with whatever cartridge u go with

As I mentioned in my two threads on switching to .257, I just decided on the 25-284 because it has a bit more case capacity (= higher velocities) than the '06/'08/CM-based cases*, without being too big.. If I weren't concerned about going a bit bigger**, I believe I'd choose the 25-65PRC...just run them thru a FL die and load them!

* and other than the '06 case
** that is, if I weren't concerned about shorter barrel life and increased recoil...with a replaced right shoulder joint, I'm a recoil-sissy

25-6.5 PRC is the easy button, but it has a magnum bolt face.Easy change for some custom actions and Savage. Some ranges, like our Black powder silhouette here and another BR range, no magnums. Some long range competitions have magnum classes, like the King of KC,a great simple competition, bag and a bipod,up to 2100 yds, basically, you miss your out. 6.5 PRC had to shoot agianst 30 cal magnums.
25- 284,25-06 fits the nich.
