Help me pick my gun please.

What about a Savage LRPV in 6BR...it's a single shot....usually that's all you will need.

Think maybe I will try to dip my toes into making my own gun. Can someone recommend specific parts for the items I will need.

1.) I'll use a Stevens action.
2.) I'd like to buy a .243 AI mid priced barrell
3.) Trigger?
4.) Stock? (box or floor plate preferred)
5.) What else do I need to get.

The more specific anyone can be even down to links or part numbers would be appreciated.

Asking for help in choosing the right rifle is a bit like asking for help choosing a wife. In short, everyone has, or develops preferences over time. Read a few different posts here and you will quickly find numerous individuals with strong opinions on just about every part from stocks to triggers. The big difference is that most shooters will let you try out their rifle; good luck when it comes to their wife.

Join a gun club if possible and shoot as many different setups as possible. Eventually, you will find a stock, caliber, trigger, receiver and barrel you prefer.

I ended up using a German Mauser bolt action receiver I came across, added a Timney trigger and had McMillian out of Montana put a 26 inch heavy barrel on it chambered in 6mmAI. Lastly, I built my own stock to my specifications. After glass bedding the action and floating the barrel, it's deadly medicine for yotes.

As another posted stated, once you cross the threshold into customs, it's addictive. I know, I now have three customs and I'm waiting for the custom reamer to arrive to begin my next.

It's a wonderful sport, the most important thing you can do is invite others to try it and join the community; we need as many new enthusiasts as possible today.

Lastly, more and more enthusiasts are now expressing the belief that the investment in a good scope is essential and I'm part of that crowd. Many believe that you should spend more on your scope than your rifle, some say twice as much. A great piece of glass is invaluable. If money is a factor as it is for most of us, Vortex scopes offer great value and and a wide range to choose from.
