243 win 22" barrel velocities.

My dad is looking for a lighter caliber rifle for Western Oregon Deer (he usually uses a 30-06) and also wants a rifle capable of doing some long range informal shooting at steel targets when we go out camping in the Oregon desert. I told him I could put together a nice 243 win on a savage action that would be able to do both pretty well. Then, I thought of the savage 10 predator in 243 win, and thought that that would be just about the perfect rifle right out of the box. I only have 2 questions about it. What kind of velocity can be expected out of a 22" barrel 243win with 95gr SMKs? How heavy of a bullet will a 9.25 twist barrel stabilize? Thanks for your held gents!

My Savage w/22" 1/9.25" twist spits the 95g Nosler HBT at 3010 fps. It can spit em faster, but this is so accurate in mine I don't need the 200 xtra fps. It will run the 80g/85g ttsx/tsx at 3300 fps, the 85g SGKHP at 3200 fps, any 55/58g bullet at 3900 fps also.
Those are the best & most accurate bullets in mine.
I do not shoot the 95g smk though.

THOSE PREDATOR RIFLES HAVE 24'' BARRELS AND YOU GOOD GET CLOSE TO 3100 TO 3150 FPS W/THOSE WT.95GR BULLETS

Are you sure about the 24" barrel because Savages website says 22" and Ive handled a few of them and it seems shorter than 24".

YES SIR 24'' SAV 10 PREDATOR HUNTER THE ONLY ONE THEY LIST 22'' IS A 223
MF#18889 IS A 24'' 243 WIN THESE ARE NICE RIFLES

the predator hunter dipped in mossy oak brush has 22in. barrel, the predator hunter in max-1 just the stock is dipped has a 24in. barrel and accu-stock. max 1 is a better purchase

1. 2900 - 3050 fps
2. I've loaded and seen 105 Hornaday Amax's out of the Savage 9.25 twist stabilize & kill Deer DRT over 200 yards. We shot them out to 600 with decent hunting accuracy.

I've shot most of the 105gr bullets out there in Remington 1:9 1/8 and they all stabilized great.

With 95 gr bergers I use reloder 17 and Get 3150 or there abouts other powders about 3100. My barrel was a remington take off that was recrowned so its more like 21.5 " long.

My 22" 9.25twist Remington gets 2930 from the 95 grain Berger hunting hybrid with 39.8gr of Imr4350. Also shot well at 41.5gr but not quite as accurate and 2930 is plenty fast enough.
