Help me choose a cartridge

The dasher is a full blown race cartridge that takes a ton of work for no benefit short of serious 1000yd br. Way too much work with no benefit from a magazine fed prs type rifle. A 6br will do everything a dasher will do at 600yds in and be better at it with no headache

6br is second in the running

My wife is loving her 6mmBRX..it is my second of three barrels in that chambering...I can't wait for this third one to be ready ..Mike in Ct

A) The Dasher takes NO more work... buy hyrdoformed brass
B) You obviously have no experience shooting PRS
C) Won’t argue that last statement.

6br.
Dasher will have a shorter barrel life, the few dashers I’ve had need more aggressive cleaning for carbon, and it doesn’t sound like you need the extra speed.

Hey all,

So I am in the deciding phase new rifle to build.

I have:
REM 700 SA
B&C 700 SA stock Style 3 and Style 5
Badger M5 DBM

I need: 5.5-22 X 50 or 3.5 - 15 X 50 NF / Trigger (probably going with Timney 510/517) and a barrel

Rifle will be for my wife to shoot. She enjoys varmint/bench type shooting and hunting. Probably not going to do much in the PRS world, but it's an outside possibility. She currently hunts with a 260 REM AI and 7mm-08. High possibility of competing in short range BR light class.

Absolutely NOT interested in 6.5 Creedmoor.

What do you suggest?
Since she already has her hunting rifle, 6 BR is a no brainer " just decide on a stock that she can handle like McMillan Edge make it all shiny and pretty. Happy Wife Happy Life..

I’m not discounting what some here have said about the 6BR and ejecting a fired case, but I’ve not had any trouble with this in my current (or last) Rem 700 I had built. That being said, I don’t have any experience with the 6x47 so it may be exactly what she would like. My simple opinion is the 6BR is the way to go in my experience.

I run AICS type mags with the rear spacer also.

My favorite mag fed rifle.

Have fun building!

Why avoid the .257?

25BR, 25X47L (essentially the 250 Savage AI).
Just my opinion, there isn't a good selection of bullets available for the quarter bore, and it's hard to find barrel that isn't handicapped with a 1:10 twist.

Each 6mm has their own benefits and drawbacks although I consider these to all be minor. I have two 6mm Remingtons in Ruger #1s. One set up for mid range 400 - 700 yards, and one set up for long range -1,000 yards. I don't believe that any of the other 6mm cartridges will offer me any practical major advantage over mine.

Dare to be different shoot a sweede!!

Already have one. Love it. Thinking about having an AI'd one built.

260, 260AI and 6.5 Swede are all better served by a long action. I want to keep it in the SA and be able to maximize available space. 6mmBR, 6XC, 22-243, 22-250AI, 6PPC are all on the table. Even considering 224 Valkyrie, 277 Wolverine, 30BR... Barrel life plays in somewhat too.

You wont be able to compete in short range br with a magazine. You can buy a dedicated ppc rifle ready to go be competitive but itll pretty much only work for br work. Cant have combo units or they wont do anything well. If youre going to run a magazine a 6x47 would be my choice. Itll do everything except short range br

Could I just put in a Bob Sled?

In my opinion 6BR for her. Its a fantastic cartridge and she will be able to cover everything out to 1000 comfortably. Not to mention she will love the tame non existant recoil compared to the 260AI. Its a darn fine accurate cartridge thats easy on powder and just a ball of joy to shoot.
Best of luck on what you decide. :)

6 Creedmoor......Lapua brass is in stock for it. Get a no turn neck and there will be plenty of off the shelf stuff to play with in the field. You can always change the chamber later with the next barrel.......

Regards
Rick

I shot an improved version of this yesterday. My gunsmith was fire forming brass for it.
Its gonna be a 1 hole wonder for sure.
