Help a Yankee move south!

If I were you I would consider traveling for a month and renting a airb+B for a week or so in several locations you may be interested in.
I live in Maine. My job allows me to travel from Maine to the Texas coast and anywhere in between whenever I want. I have been in some areas I like quite well but after a week or two I cant wait to get back to Down East Maine.
The whole "pay to hunt" deal is hard to swallow when we have millions of acres in Maine open for all to enjoy we can hunt/shoot on without any permission needed.

The pay to hunt is sad HOWEVER, with land prices and property taxes being what they are, I see the need for it. Some of the "good old days" were indeed pretty good.

After reading all the comments there is a lot I would like to say, but after furnishing the country with Bill Clinton I'm going to keep quiet..... John
True story: I was down in Arkansas to a field trial one time and walked into a restaurant that had a life size cardboard figure of Bill. As I'm casually looking at it, the hostess comes over. I commented to her "where is Monica"? There was no response, but if looks could kill I'd have been a goner. :)

And he drug "That Woman" with him. Double trouble.
No, actually the"old haint" as we referred to her in polite company drug him back East. He picked her up in college and brought her to Arkansas when he came home. She came out of the Chicago mob/political families, the old J Daley crew. Her daddy and Nancy Pelosie's daddy were well known players in the old Daley syndicate.. she hated us and we returned the favor.... John

To those of you bad mouthing folks from the NE migrating to your state, I hold up Josh as an example of what you might be losing out on. No better defender of the Constitution than this Delaware migrant, and judging by his posts on Accurate Shooter, he is one heckuva fine gentleman!! Please judge a man by the content of his character and not where he is residing.

Of course you judge a man by his character but if you lived in one of the places that is being invaded by liberals from the northeast or CA then you would understand. I myself moved from CT to NC and when meeting others had to show them where I stood. You would assume those here would vote to save our rights but I can tell you that is not always true. So if there is a little push back it's warranted and it's a trust but verify situation.

All Deplorable's are welcome in the Great State of Florida.
I'm 62yrs.old. I was born in Albany New York. We moved down to Palm Beach County when I was 6.
I moved to North Florida in October '08. There's ranges close and not so close to me.
Depending on your preferred discipline I would be looking between Tennessee near Oak Ridge and N. Or S. Carolina.

You must have been in a pretty good size town, out in our part of the state you wouldn't have had to pay for a drink the rest of the day. Kinda like Harry Reid in Nevada, coming back from California half the small places we stopped to fuel had his picture in the urinal, but he carried the state. It was like that here.... John

Up here in the Badger State we get a lot of Illinois influx. Sometimes referred to as Apple Knockers, and many times as FIBS. I agree that they have oftentimes earned their nicknames yet still, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt until actions prove me wrong. Some 4 1/2 years ago we had a couple from the Chicago area move in just down the road from us. Wanting to be neighborly we went over to introduce ourselves. Much to our surprise they were both extremely conservative in their political beliefs. We became very good friends. Had we blown them off as probably being libtards because of their former home location, it would have been a great loss to all of us. Unfortunately, the husband passed away very unexpectedly a little more than 3 months ago. I miss him immensely.

And why I said judge by character but verify.

Tennessee might work. Good tax stance, with respect to income, retirement income. Definitely tends toward the non-Libby end of the spectrum.

There are a number of smaller towns within "spittin' distance" of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Check out City-Data.com:

With a heart condition, it might be more suitable to be within an easy drive of a metro area (such as Knoxville TN). Plus, as compared to the country a metro area like Knoxville is far more likely to have "senior" and "assisted living" alternatives, if going the single-family-home route isn't preferred.

If willing to be away from the urban areas, perhaps a spot like, say, Spencer TN. A bit over 100mi to the west-southwest of Knoxville TN. Fairly inexpensive properties, land for building a small house, etc. And a great gun range that covers all the disciplines.

I spent over 30 years in the military and served with men and women from all over the country. I couldn't and wouldn't try to pigeonhole any of them. Good people can be found where ever you go; the same is true about bad people. I'm surprised to hear such downgrading from forum members who share a commonality that is under such maligning.

I'm a Realtor in SEGA.

SEGA is a perfect storm...less than an hour from the coast. Jacksonville is 1.5 hours away. The Gulf if 2.5hrs. If you want a trip to a big city, The ATL is less than 4hrs. Property is cheap relative to the NE/West. Taxes are low. The Government stays out of your way, you can do what you want if you live in the country. Plenty of deer hunting. There aren't many 55+ communities...not sure I would want to live around old people!!

Judging by the amount of traffic here in SC, I can confirm a significant influx of people…..
I would concur on increased traffic. A large percentage seems to be Latinos who may or may not be here lawfully. If one reads the traffic stop reports in the local paper you can't help but notice a high degree of those have no valid drivers license or proof of insurance. Just saying, not judging.

SC, at least the coastal areas I am familiar with are plagued by traffic problems, high property costs, and rising property taxes. Thy hadn't planned for and aren't / weren't ready for the influx. I get sick every time I see a large tract of land cut into 1/4 acre lots and filled with cracker box houses. Then, throw in terrible heat and humidity on top of all that. I wouldn't move to the coast of SC because of those things.
