Help a Yankee move south!

I’ve watched a lot of growth in SC over the years. A lot of really nice places aren’t as nice anymore. Part of the allure that brings people in tends to evaporate quickly.

Too many people too much traffic and lagging infrastructure all around. Higher costs. Higher taxes.

I live in a quiet small town. My neighbors shoot around me, party on the pond behind the house, I seldom hear traffic other than a train horn. We recently hired the first town policeman. Go figure.

Walked out the house this morning to go shoot and heard two owls talking. Got back and heard the woodpeckers calling. Dove season is open and they are shooting on two sides of me. Got deer crossing the property and ducks and geese doing flybys.

The south is an interesting place, and I say that as a Welsh descendant nearly 400 years removed from Wales. Mostly, we stayed south. People from the south seldom move north. We know what we got….

More can be accomplished here by a casual conversation than any high pressure sales pitch in any major boardroom on the planet. It’s not perfect nowhere ever is.

Good luck in your search.

NC is really nice. Moved here about 5 years ago from CT. Had to get out of there but sucks coming down here and seeing the influx of people from liberal northeast coming down and voting for the same shit that drove them out! Guys at my firehouse call me a yankee and not a damn yankee because they know which way I vote. ;) Come on down and help keep the state red!

That said it would depend on what type of matches you want to do as to where you might want to move. A bunch of good ranges around but not all the same as far as match types.

East Tennessee would be nice several great places to shoot
Dead Zero shooting park in Spencer, Oak ridge and sometimes AEDC in Tullahoma.
I live in north west Tennessee been here all my life and compete in F class mid range and long range shooting.
Tennessee is gun friendly and I hope we keep it this way.

I cant imagine not going to tx or florida just for the tax reasons plus the elder communities. TN and ARK are coming up next on the no income tax list

I know it's a lateral move, but we could use a couple thousand more red minded folk in the badger state. We have a 1000 yard range in Lodi and the lion's share of the good barrel makers.

Hell no stay there we’re out of room, and you guys burn up all the gas and shoot the
Animals and catch the fish, stay up there it’s too hot etc!

if you had to use the VA medical system the tax benefits would take 2nd place to your medical needs. Each states VA skill and availability are different.
You should keep in mind the needs of people are quite different. Let your imagination drift if you can to people less fortunate, it’s quite a trip.

I would suggest while you're on the reconnaissance mission to also look at mid/long range benchrest opportunities. The area you're talking about going seems to be pretty active in this arena - from the posts on our forum.

It’s funny how people assume that because I am from Mass I am a liberal ass, sorry to disappoint you I am neither. Coming from the gun community I expected better from some of you. But I guess there are A holes everywhere you go .
Agree 100%

I picked Texas. I love it! We’re doing the snowbird thing these days but I’m pushing the wife to make Texas permanent. We picked the Hill Country and landed in Kerrville. VERY gun friendly and nice conservative people. I know a couple people that bought little town homes at a local Country Club development for retirement. They drive a golf cart to the clubhouse for meals, when they want, but it’s only ten minutes to town.
I found retirement homes too restrictive. Almost fell for it when my wife pushed that direction. I started asking questions. They didn’t like me bringing my guns and they wanted ALL of my financial information, including bank account numbers. I said “Hell No!” and never went back.
Take a look at Texas. Yeah, we’re into a fight against the Liberals, but that fight is going on everywhere. I felt good when the local Sherif stated that neither he, nor his Deputies would enforce ANY laws that infringed on the 2nd Amendment.

The VA in arkansas (little rock) is just like any other hospital. I never hear anybody gripe about it and i know a bunch that go there and work there

“Just like any other hospital “ is a very telling choice of words.
I’d tell you to do some research but actually I don’t care whether you look into or not. But here’s a shock, what your friends and some employees may tell you is far from reality.
My choices, like some others, is first and foremost the quality of the V A. In choosing where I live.
As far as taxes go I don’t think you pay them when you’re dead, but that too, is hearsay.

No complaints from vets around here on the VA hospital like i hear of other places. I even know of a bunch thats had cancer treatments and their lives were saved and theyre living happy lives now. This isnt new york by a long shot i assure you. Plus we have the arkansas heart hospital which is one of the best in the world, childrens hospital which has one of the best burn units in the world, plus numerous other nationally ranked hospitals. Health care in central arkansas is not an issue

To those of you bad mouthing folks from the NE migrating to your state, I hold up Josh as an example of what you might be losing out on. No better defender of the Constitution than this Delaware migrant, and judging by his posts on Accurate Shooter, he is one heckuva fine gentleman!! Please judge a man by the content of his character and not where he is residing.

You move south and you won't be a yankee anymore, you'll be a damn yankee. I moved to Maine and they call us flatlanders or in our case Massholes. I guess that's better than a Mainiac.
I once dated a NoCal girl who'd been married to a guy from Maine. She lasted about two years there. His insular clan wouldn't even acknowledge her presence much less talk to her, and the black flies nearly drove her insane.
