Help a Yankee move south!

It’s funny how people assume that because I am from Mass I am a liberal ass, sorry to disappoint you I am neither. Coming from the gun community I expected better from some of you. But I guess there are A holes everywhere you go .

I would say come to Western Colorado, but not really any over 55 communities around here and I don't think the altitude would do you well. Our club would welcome another shooter and there are F class shoots about 50 miles away. Hope you find what you are looking for.
I did look at the area you are looking at too, but as said, too hot and humid for my liking. Prefer the cooler weather we have here.

The Greenville, SC area might be a good place to consider.

There are good shooting opportunities and the Yanks and southern
boys get along very well. This is no surprise when you realize a shooter
is a shooter---we tend to respect each other and get along very well.

This is a good place to live.

A. Weldy

You showed your colors the minute you said NOT FLORIDA. If you knew anything about Florida you would know central north and the panhandle are nothing like Miami and Orlando. my experience with Massholes goes way back and you can have them. When my parents came to Florida in 1957 it was a wonderful place. When you killed someone, they gave you the electric chair, when all the Yankees came their politics wouldn't allow that to continue. Now anything below Martin County line and south of US27 and the Orlando area is just as screwed up as the Northeast is. Many blame it on the immigrants but the yankees made it happen long before there were many immigrants here.

My dad's family are Yankee and they are neither liberal nor gun haters. There are good people everywhere. Just like the Hispanic community which has lots of good people. We would do the same thing in their position. They are just taking advantage of our politics and laws. You can be my neighbor. I won't fuss if you accidently mow over in my yard or your dog poops on the shared driveway. Less I have to mow the way I see it. Could say lots more, tried to keep it concise.

I have a friend that just left Miami for west central FL and stays here in NC part of the year. He said Miami is just too nuts and too much crime for him. Good dude. My mom's family are in central florida. Again, good people every where in the world.

A lot of my family live in Florida don't mind visiting just don't want to go that far south. same as I don't want to go to far west.

Moved to SC from the people's republic of NY about seven years ago (one of the best moves I ever made). We looked all over for a warmer climate and decided to settle down about 20 mi inland from Charleston. We love the area. It stays hotter longer in the summer but the winters are great compared to the Northeast. Little or no snow and ice. The area offers a lot, its a short ride to Charleston or the shore but far enough inland to offer protection from storm surge in the event of a hurricane. There is no perfect place to live. I also have a small condo near my son in Salt Lake City. It's also a great place to go shooting but they are running out of water and I don't like cold winters anymore.
I believe the range DRYHUMOR above was referring to in the Summerville SC area is the Palmetto Gun Club, of which I am a member. It's a private club and there is a waiting list to join but the weekend matches are open to all. They have weekend matches for all disciplines, from Cowboy to F Class (to 800 yd). You can check out the website. The club members are a great bunch they had no problem accepting a "damn yankee" like me.
If you need anymore info on the area send me a PM.

I'm in the same boat.
Hate Illinois, too liberal. Sorry any liberal is too liberal.
Been looking at Tennessee also.
The price of homes there have doubled in 2 years. Hard to buy a home at 2x the price
it was a year and half ago.
Hear a lot of people moving there from other lib states. Just getting tired of all the crap
and taxes they come up with to support the lazy lib's.

The conditions you described that you are looking for are very close to a senior community called "The Villages" other than being in Florida it is real close to what you are looking for. My wife shoots archery tournaments there and likes it. WAY to populated for me. I bought acreage in a bankrupt grove in the 1970s and it has grown to the point i cannot stand being here. They built a 96 stall barn across the canal from my place and have no provision for a place to load or unload the horse trailers so they block the road. All the horse owners come just before thanksgiving and say till after easter. Rudest most entitled people ive ever seen. guess what they are all form the north east.

This is hilarious. I can’t imagine living anywhere east of the Missouri River. You guys are quibbling about which place sucks less. Every suggestion offered seems worse than prison. Oh, one last thing, show me one place where people moved to and didn’t bring their politics and voting habits with them. They all say that they hate the BS they fled but are so quick to revert to their natural ways. It’s just whatever, but it’s funny to point out, nothing else you can do. A far right Californian is the same as any other democrat, they just don’t know it. Same applies to any blue state “conservative”. Don’t agree, show me, I’m a visual learner. Assimilation never happens. Ever.

There has been a massive increase of "out of towners" moving into eastern Va., mostly by the yankees that always had an evil disposition towards us "southerners", yet here they are, emptying the shelves as hard as they can go. Must be those "work from home" positions allowing these folks to make the same money yet move somewhere cheaper and to get away from all the chaos they voted for. They have plenty of time to stock up on groceries and what not so the poor working class like myself gets to go to the store on his only time off (the saturdays I don't work) to find everything depleted. Thanks to "ya'll", southern hospitality has left the building.

I can sympathize with you. I have a few friend's in VT that told me people started moving near them from NY City and they wanted to change things to suit their needs. You know what then stay the FK in NYC. Then I love the out of state ahole's that move near a shooting range then they try like Hell to shut it down because they don't like to hear gunfire, again if your a Democratic yuppie that doesn't like gunfire make sure that you don't move near a shooting facility. So I don't blame you one bit for saying what you did.
Reminds me of an area east of Seattle that was rural 30 years ago. People started moving in around the dairy farms. As the area became more gentrified one development was built next to a pond in the bottom of the valley. Not sure what the people were thinking. Perhaps that they had water front. Turned out the pond was the dairy cesspool. A shite pond if you will. The owners of these new houses sued the dairy to shut it down. They lost.

Similar thing has happened to at least two gun ranges in the area we currently live in. One of the efforts was initiated by a guy who owns a massive cabinet factory and supplies cabinets nation wide to the likes of home depot and lowes. Guys has deep pockets. He apparently showed up at the range with a handful of bullets and brass saying he found them on his property and they came from the range. He sued, he lost. It was obvious that he did not even know what the pointy end of a cartridge was.

I worked for years in Palm Beach Fl. and catered to the ultra-wealthy. I was working on a condo and overheard the owner talking on the phone about he had to come down today cause he could vote once before leaving and vote again when he got here.

Wow. I guess Barry McGuire had it right.

And think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
Ah, you may leave here for four days in space
But when you return, it's the same old place
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next door neighbor but don't forget to say grace
