Heck, It’s Cold!!

1st week of this year was cold, -32 to -38 degrees celsius. Last week was fine, just snowing again few inches. And now we have again -32 degrees celsius. In northern parts of country there has been -46 celsius. I just wonder where is that global warming?

We're in the deep freeze here in at my little sod hut on the plains. Yesterday morning, the temps were around -15 with wind chill numbers around -40. The sun dogs were spectacular in the morning....grabbed these before heading to church. In the afternoon, we caught the Broadway production of 'To Kill A Mockingbird' with Richard Thomas as the lead (Atticus Finch).

Saturday afternoon and evening. there was no travel advised due to the blowing snow and -50 wind chills. But there was work to be done at the race shop. The normal 20 minute drive took about 40 as I had to back up on a county highway that was plugged with a couple of stranded vehicles. Checked to see if anyone was in them and then went the round-about route the rest of the way.

-42 to -45 in the mornings for the last 3 days. Not sure what it would be with windchill added on. Cold enough it isn't any fun.

I lived in Wyoming for 16 years. Almost 11 of those were in Big Piney. One of the coldest places in all of Wyoming. In deep winter we would see -25 to-40 on an ugly, regular basis. I speak of actual temp. not wind chill! You knew it was getting really cold when the local welders were out using their welding machines to thaw out pipes. Gratefully, in that area of Wyoming, we were lucky in that we didn't get hardly any wind in the wintertime.

It was -32 this morning but much warmer tonight at -10. It was a lot colder at my son's place, -52. His propane furnace quit since the temp was below the dew point for propane. I suggested that he put a tarp over the tank and an electric heater under the tarp. That worked and he got his heat back on.
He reports that he loses about 37% range on his Hyundai EV, at 40 below; mostly from heater use. It always starts though! WH

Another to say yeah, it's /really/ cold here not dry and just below freezing, but also I was annoyed at being in the house and full of errands so went to the range. -2° F here, dropped further before I left, and -10° F overnight. Had to (got to?) ski for part of it, as plenty of snow on the ground also.

I don't normally selfie but had to hold it all my friends sad about not getting to the range as a come on out, the weather's fine

(Smartphone camera confused by snow etc. It was not at all this bright but NODs were mostly for a bit later on.)

It's been in the low 60s here at night and the early mornings for the past week with light winds....
I realize that y'all be walking around in shorts and t-shirt,but for an old fart like me that's been here this long and used to warm weather year around that seems like 40 degrees. now, today is perfect.

You couldn't pay me to live in a place like that.
