Heavy 223's and LEVERevolution ??

For whatever reason, LVR seems to be more available than most other powders, I would like to know if anyone has tried it in either a "bolt gun" or a "gas gun" with the heavy 224's ; ie, 75's th 80 gn bullets even seated long for single shot loading in an AR ??

I have tried Superformance with heavy bullets in a 22-250 and it worked very well. Given that LEVERevolution sits between H380 and CFE223 on the Hodgdon burn rate chart, I would expect it to be about right for 223. I think your idea may well have merit. It looks worth exploring to me.

Checking the Speer loading manual, they list ; 380,414 & 4320 with their 70 gn, semi SP. The velocities aren't quite as high as the usual 223 powders, but the loading density looks like it would be higher just from the amount of the slower powders listed. I find that most Bass Pro Shops list LVR as being in stock.

I used it this year in a 223 AR match rifle and service rifle. 24.0 grains behind 75 and 80's shot just as well as Varget or RE15. velocity was 2730fps. left the barrel pretty black with carbon was about the only downside. scores were the same as before so accuracy was right there with the other popular powders. I pushed it to 25 grains in testing and didn't see signs of pressure but thought that the 24 grain was more accurate.
the stuff works fine.

it wasn't bad. I let the chemicals do the work, let stuff sit for a bit, I don't own a brass brush so that tells you how hard I scrub and it comes out just fine. I use a bloop tube and the stuff on the crown is far worse than inside the barrel. it needs extra attention but still comes off.

I forgot to add to my first post that the velocity at 2730 was in my 26" barreled match gun and that is a bit low so I was going to bump up to 24.5 again. i'm not a velocity freak but I thought a little more would serve me well at 600.

Thank you, and as I said before, I'll get a 1 # container and try it. And I agree, no sense in trying for "warp" speeds if the only thing you can hit is the ground, and that takes gravity to help with that.

I've tried it in 6br looking for varget substitute. Worked fine. I also found it dirtier than varget. But it shot well.

Tim, what weight bullets were you using and what charge weight did you start and stop at?

Berger 88 and 95s started at 29 went up to 31.5 with the 95s and 32gr with the 88
Cleaned up a little better with the hotter loads. Shot average of 1/2" groups not as good as Varget for target shooting. But plenty good for groundhogs

Everything I've heard about lvr is doesn't start to shine until you get around 25 or 26 gr. Every gun is different so work it up slowly but it'll also clean up as you hit peak pressure. Also the ES/SD drops drastically as you approach peak pressure.

I use 27.6gr in my 223AI with 75gr ELD-M's running them right at 3000...very accurate! Like others have said it does really good when getting up close to peak pressure.
