Hearing Protection

I would like some input on earplugs for shooting.
A lot of what I see in reviews does not impress me.
I don't like wearing the muffs ...

I use the Walker's Razor electronic muffs, normally. NRR 23.

But I also generally double-up with the Walker's disposable foam ear plugs. NRR 32. These actually, IMO, offer sufficient protection for me against pistol and smaller caliber noise, that occasionally I've gone with just them. So long as they're inserted such that they fit tightly in the ear canal, most of the noise is damped quite well. Though, generally it's doubled-up with the muffs over them. Extreme amount of sound eliminated, with those, and the electronic feature of the muffs required in order to make any speech intelligible.

The plugs are a bit much for, say, loud movie theaters, but they work well. Some of the lowest-volume voices get nixed, with the things. Otherwise, they are good for that purpose.

For general road noise and construction type noises, I find them decent as well. But spoken words can be quite muffled, unless up close to a person.

Haven't seen many negative reviews of the things, either the simple foam plugs or the muffs.

I have the peltor for muffs , I like the sound quality and they work well doing the job there supposed to do.... I work at a gun range and need to be able to hear especially on the skeet ranges.... For ear plugs the Howard Leight MAX are very nice and work very well for me.... It's all I will buy and occasionally there's a link in the daily bulletin on getting a deal on them.... I just ordered a box of them from Amazon not long ago.... When you spend a ton of time around gun shots you figure it out pretty fast... Nothing makes me cringe like hearing the skeet thrower go off in the house because I know I forget my ear plugs and about half a second later BOOM...

Like alot of things it's personal preference and what's important about plugs is there's different sizes... You need to find the correct size for your ears... Muffs are kinda the same way... You can get a good pair cheap that don't have the electronics in them or if you need to hear you can go from $50 to the sky is the limit.... I don't like muffs for shooting rifle and shotguns myself but know alot of people who use them...

Where can a guy get hooked up with plugs like that? I ask because I bought some plugs that I formed myself. It was like a two part epoxy deal that I jammed in my ears. They fit great. Can wear them all day, but the noise reduction isn't quite there.
I see that you are in PA. If you can get to "The CMP Shoots at Camp Perry", historically there has been a vendor on Commercial Row making these there.

I started with passive ear muffs then went to Surefire EP4's and then EP3's, for pistol. I used Peltor Tac 6S defenders for pistol and rifle.

I recently got a set of Walker Silencer BT's and really like them. Wear them for pistol and rifle. Zero issues. You won't be disappointed.

How about $13/side?

Caveat: I use Etymotics electronic plugs with these things modified to replace the eartips: https://www.amazon.com/Moldex-507-6650-Softies-Earplug-Corded/dp/B01HJTW7U0
