Hearing aids and shooting

Hey all, I wear hearing aids and remove them for shooting to wear my protective hearing muffs. Anybody still wearing the hearing aids under their muffs or does everyone remove them when shooting. I do have electronic muffs that I wear but I would like to heat better for the shooting commands and target impacts. All thoughts and ideas welcome.

Norm Matzen your comments are especially prized on this concern. Thanks

I wear my hearing aids under my muffs. If you utilize electronic muffs be aware having hearing aids underneath them can cause feedback. A squeal in your head while concentrating on shooting is not very desirable .

I take my hearing aids out as well. As shoot4fun mentioned, you can get terrible feedback at times. I have a fairly new set of electronic ear muffs that work really well. I can turn them up and hear people talking so it works out for me. When someone is next to me with a big boomer or a break, I use ear plugs along with the ear muffs.

There are some hearing aids that are also made for the range. They're a lot cheaper than regular hearing aids but still quite expensive.

I wear my aids under my electronic muffs and never have any problem with feedback, though I seldom have the muffs turned on. Because I can control my aids with my phone by bluetooth connection, I sometime turn the aids off even with the muffs on. Though I could get by without the muffs and protect my ears, I want to protect the aids as well, so I wear the muffs whenever shooting.

The type of aids that I have, use an in-the-canal receiver and I use them with a solid dome. So, when I turn them off, I don't hear much of anything. This particular set up is why I don't get any feedback. I've got a set of custom fit in-the-ear pieces that lets a lot of exterior sound it without the amplification and when if I use these, I do get some feedback occasionally. So, the feedback issue is really about just what type of aid you have and how it's set up for you.

I remove mine and use ear plugs like a musician would use and also use muffs. Range commands are not an issue since I don't participate in competitive shooting.

i get the feedback even without electronic muffs.. they say that they are "feedback" resistant..i use my muffs for more than shooting.. i do a lot of grounds keeping..

Older type hearing aids will have feedback when anything is very close to them. I just got a new set this year and have no problems with feedback even when I cup my hand directly over my ear.

I keep my hearing aids in when I wear my electronic muffs and have no problem even when I turn the muffs on. My only problem, is the muffs fit tightly, as they should, and this cause the side of my head to hurt because of the pressure from the muffs.

You need to hear the range commands, so you need to hear... if you learn how to set the aids you can use your electronic muffs so you can herar without feed back. .... jim

Get electronic ear muffs with amplification they work like hearing aids they block the bang and I can hear people talk quite well

When I wear my aids. I remove them when I go to muffs. The muffs I have a built in device to amplify, so I can hear with them on, yet shut off the loud sounds, when I fire a weapon.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Would still like to hear from Norm on what happens to the sounds within earmuff ear protection. Norm, you out there?
