So I saw where Harrells folks were retiring--I decided to order a rimfire tuner before it was too late--Had a great phone call explained I wanted a tad more clearance so it would not scratch up barrel going on and off--he understood said no problem--about a week later tuner comes--put it on my stock CZ MTR, grabbed a few boxes of random SK RED and an ARA factory target.
I read all about the methods etc but a pal said start at 200 go to 300 and just see --I did not but ran it in and started shooting groups every rotation of 25 all the way to about 375 out---
It started looking real good at 200 out and when I hit 300 out it went BINGO!!!!! It started printing the best groups ever--mild breeze at 50 yards off a solid bench--bipod and rear bag like I use in ARA. I was Shocked at how good it went. I slept on it--came out the next morning and it repeated the test to a T with the 300 setting just killing it! It did it group after group.
So today we dialed up for an upcoming 200 yd Long Gong--light breeze--after getting elevation dialed in the rifle with that same SK Red printed three groups on the white gong that were not over 1 1/4 inch !!!
I am just stunned at how well this experiment has gone---the lot of ammo was Nothing special
I will be able to shoot it at some local matches by just going up a class or two--I can shoot the Long Gong we have in modified stock class---I am simply Amazed It took about 2 1/2 boxes of ammo --A few have said keep testing --at this point I have to say WHY? I have pix of two groups out of the 5 or 6 it did yesterday the best one and the worst one- -and when it started hammering at 200 today my jaw dropped!
I have seen folks spend weeks on testing these things--Today I shot some odd old center x and it did fantastic as well--I did note that the chrono tested speed was almost identical to the SK Red that is doing so well--so..guess I will have to test more with other speeds and see but so far it is killing with those two and a lot of SK Green I had .
This thing has shown me ...Hell I don't know what it is showing me --I have been fighting to get a "great lot" of ammo for this rifle all year long--and when I find it the thing shoots really really good but I have to work my behind off on every shot--with the rifle barrel "happy" it was bang bang bang and they all just go right in there easy as pie
One odd thing is that each setting produced a different point of impact --photo of the high group was before I adjusted it down for the next group --the one hole group was 4 shoots I did not want to screw it up
I have never had a tuner before but if I lost this one I would get another before bedtime
