Harder bolt close after sizing

Seat a bullet in the empty brass you have resized (no where near the land) and see if that makes it worse to close the bolt. I had a problem like this when a donut was forming at the case neck shoulder junction.

Why are you trying to remove the ejector? ......

With the ejector pin in place I can feel the resistance of the pin catching the base of the case and pushing it forward. The damn pin is so tight that I have bent some punches trying to get it out to no avail.

At any rate, thanks to all of your replies found the issue. Just needed to bump more.

The Hornady tool is not designed to accurately measure headspace. It is a comparitor. Their product name is misleading. If you don't believe me get a hold of a GO gauge and measure it. With the GO gauge you can use the tool to make comparisons that will be valid. As it is, yours are not.

This is a common issue with comparators. They can pick up on a diameter reduction if they contact too close to the neck or shoulder. When that happens you will measure a shoulder bump but you did not actually set back the shoulder yet.
