Hard carbon removing, help!

Hello,
I just finished clean the barrel one second time on this two days.
On the rifling, throat, neck area and about 6" from the muzzle I can't remove hard (backed) carbon.

I've used KG1, Rimfire blend, Bore Cleaning foam, but not lucky for me.
Patch and first use bronze brush.

I read an old thread that the miracolous blend are citrid acid aka Lemi Shine.

Have you some report about?
If the citrid acid are usable for removing hard carbon, how I can neutralize this on the chamber/barrel?

None of those will remove hard packed carbon. Only an soft abrasive will get it done. I use the thorough clean which is a liquid form of Iosso and wont harm the barrel. It will work with nylon and bronze brushes. The bronze brush will get it out faster than nylon.

J.B. on a patch wrapped around a bronze brush will get it out in short order. I put a couple drops of solvent on the patch. Make sure you use a bore guide and put the guide on the rod before you put the brush and JB'd patch on the rod. After you're done, clean the rod guide and then push some wet patches through the bore before giving it a good brushing.

The dealer where I get my supplies carries all three products you recommended. Is it worth saving money and buying Iosso Bore Cleaner? Do you have any advice on its use? Should it be diluted or softened? If I choose Torro Clean, do I also need to buy Torro Flush, or is any degreaser or brake cleaner spray fine?

If I use JB Paste, which version should I buy?

How often do you clean your barrels?

I try to at least clean the barrel after every shooting session, at least clean it of carbon residue.
But this is a gun I bought used, and the previous owner didn't take much care to keep it clean...
Now these residues bother me, not just for aesthetic reasons.

A Winning in the Wind video recommends using methyl isobutyl ketone, which is a solvent for nitrocellulose, which is the base for gunpowder.

Why do you put the solvent on the cloth?

Working the JB into a patch and then wrapping it around the brush gives more contact area with the bore.

I usually place the bore guide in the action and then insert the wand with the products.

With the guide in the action, a lot of the JB on the patch ends up inside the bore guide.

I read somewhere that there is no known solvent that dissolves carbon. You might soften other chemicals that it's mixed with? Sounds like you need an abrasive.

JB Bore Paste. Recommended by others here already. This stuff works great. Including getting rid of carbon rings in the throat.

Spin the brush in the throat/lead, I do it without a bore guide. Barrel angle down, flush everything out the muzzle. Than clean the bore. Keep your action dry. I use an action length rod.

That works very well for the chamber neck. I use a one caliber bigger bronze brush with a dab of JB on the leading part of the brush. Twist, twist, twist and then clean, clean, clean.

I do the same thing, a solvent and patch cleaning after each ranch session ( usually 20-25 rounds ) with a concentration around the neck/ throat area. It isn’t pristine, but I’m trying to keep up with carbon as I go.

I didnt care for the JB as it takes more to clean it from the barrel.
Iosso doesnt have to be thinned. It is water based so you might want to use a water based rinse like prolix, bore tech, or thorroflush.

Another option is Flitz bore cleaner.
It's thinner than Iosso or Thorroclean but works well on a patch wrapped around a jag or brush.

FYI. The latest Thorroclean [I got some two weeks ago] is now about the same consistency as Iosso. I'm guessing because they recommend using it on a brush.
