H4831sc vs H1000

I ordered 3 lb of h4831sc #100 6.5 x 284 Lapua brass, 1000 CCI BR primers .
They didn't have retumbo and I swear they didn't have h1000 but when I looked the next day they had some h1000 how much better is h1000 then h4831sc accuracy wise . I believe h1000 will get better velocity want to get 2950 muzzle velocity with a 28" BB or 3000. 3100 would be nice with 140 grain projectiles yes I know accuracy is more important I've been doing a lot of reading everybody says 2950 3000 feet per second with a 140 BERGER 142 SMK projectile is where the sweet spot is, also some found accuracy nodes at 3050. 144 grain long-range hybrid would be nice or 147 Hornady also the 150 smk everybody says they blow up though, thanks for your time.

The burn chart says they are very different Speeds and in my 6.5 saum the h4831 was too fast for the 156 and h1000 was very good, might be better for 140 class bullet

4831SC was very accurate in my 7saum(60 gr) with 150 gr bullets. You may not get to your velocity reference, the 28" barrel will help some.

I switched from H4831 to RL23 in my 260AI and am running the 140VLDT at 2977 from a 26" barrel. I couldn't get enough H1000 in my case to get the speed, but accuracy was good with both H4831 and slightly better with better temp stability with RL23 than H4831. Note, I was not using the short cut version.

One thing I found out the hard way is that there are big velocity difference from one lot to another in 4831sc. If your buying 8lb. jugs, I would advise chronoing the new batch to see where you are velocity wise. My 6.5 GWI went from 3,055 to 2,990 fps. when I went to a new jug. And of course it was at the National matches when it happened. :(
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

H-4350 is what a lot of people shoot, but RL-17 gives me the extra 100 fps with equivalent accuracy

Anyone have a 6XC load with 4831sc? using either 107SMK or 115 DTAC? I have 205M and CCIBR primers. Peterson brass.

H4831sc will work. The 6.5-284 is fairly easy to tune with a wide variety of powders. That being said I have always found H1000 to give better results in speed and accuracy both with 140 class bullets. If you can find some H1000 55-56gr of H1000 has always produced very small groups with single-digit ES and great velocity.

In the 260 or the 6.5-284?
