H4831SC in 6.5 PRC...anyone else??

This spring I put together a hunting rifle to use for deer and elk in Montana this fall. I originally wanted to run 143 ELD-X or 142 AB LR bullets.

Starting with H1000 powder and not yielding much better than 1 moa groups I was getting disgusted. The H1000 seemed to be about the right speed of burn for the 142/143s and offered great load density with being able to run compressed loads without seeing much pressure but the accuracy wasnt there.

I have been reading that RL26 is the cherry powder for the 6.5 PRC but i cant get my hands on any to try it.

I decided to try the 130gr sierra gamechanger TGK bullet and along with them I run H4831SC and this seems to be a great combo as they will stack in the same hole at 100yds.

My barrel is a 26" Lilja 8 twist.

Hornady brass

56gr of H4831SC is a real tac driver at 3020fps and 59gr also groups real well at 3118fps.

Also using CCI 250 LR magnum primer

I havent seen much load data or talk of using H4831SC in the 6.5PRC and am curious if others have used it and what their results are like. I would also be interested in seeing what quickload says about pressure of the 2 loads I listed above.

Thanks for sharing any data related to this!

I am running H4831 in my 6.5x284, dead nuts accurate, am shooting a 140-142gr for target and hunting, and a 120gr Sierra for hunting also. With my maxium loads, that I dialed back half a grain, this round is duplicating what the 6.5PRC is supposed to do. I am shooting a Savage short action stainless with heavy bull, 30" Benchmark barrel, no turn neck and a 24" new factory takeoff sporter I got from a guy who was building a heavy gun. This second one is a hunting rifle I built on a Savage Long action, so I can seat the bullets out where I like them. I did all the work on the builds myself, trued actions and barrel nuts up, changed triggers, drilled the screw holes out to 8-40 and reamed the mounts for the screws to fit. The sporter barrel shoots my 140 hunting load into the low .300s for 3 shot groups at 100yds , letting it cool between groups. The heavy barrel will shoot a ragged hole at 200, 5 shots into .600. I am running the 142 Sierra at 3150fps, and can lift the bolt with one finger. I shoot some older Winchester WLR primers and they shoot better than anything I have tried. I actually got some hangfires with CCI Benchrest. The only reason I tried them was because a buddy nagged me to. I don't use them for anything else, I have gotten too many batches of hard primers, that a 98 Mauser with a #26 firing pin spring would only bounce off of and not even dent. Hope this helps.

I'm running a light load of 54.1gr, ES 10, at 2978 with 143s. 26" barrel, hornady brass. Slight pressure signs at 55.5gr, at 3050fps.

RL26 gives about 50fps increased velocity over H1000 in my rifle using SMK 150's. Accuracy is so good with H1000 that I did not test the RL 26 for accuracy. Have not tried H4831sc and have not tried any bullets less than the 150. I do have some new Berger 156's but not have been able to velocity test them yet. Group was 0.8" at 200 for three shots using a load of H1000 that did not give any case head expansion
