H0RNADY plant tour no more.

Just came home from a big shooting event. Talk to the Hornady rep and telling him how much i enjoyed twice being threw the factory for a free tour. He said no more they have to stop it for insurance reasons. You all missed a great thing to see how all those bullets are made. I am so lucky to see it and my most exciting thing was that huge press spitting out those 50 cal bullets what a sight. That press shock the whole concrete floor it was so powerful.

check out you tube for a factory tour.

Many years ago, I was frequently called on to be a tour guide at the plant I worked at. People on tours can be their own worst enemies. What part of look DO NOT touch, is hard for people to understand. I had people pick up hot parts, greasy parts, sharp parts. Tours were finally cancelled there too.

About 15 years ago we were traveling across country and timed an overnight to hit the Hornady factory right when it opened for a tour. We got there and there wasn't anyone to give us a tour, they said ppl didn't usually show up that early. They called around and a lady came down and gave us the tour. She was some kind of vp but had started at the bottom and worked her way up, knew an incredible amount about the plant and had worked on most of the machines herself. We were there for almost 3 hours and it was extremely interesting, great behind the scene look into the process.

Back in 1981-1982 I was stationed at Cornhusker Army ammunition plant, A satellite base for the Air Force in the middle of a corn field. A guy that worked maintenance was married to a local girl who worked at Hornady, we got a Tour, back when it was a small building, that's where I started to learn reloading. Does anyone remember the 20 round plastic trays of factory ammo you could buy back then?

A number of years ago my buddy and I stopped on our way to Colorado for an elk hunt. I didn’t notice any particular time for a tour but when asked about one there was no hesitation in a quality control person showing us the process. Very informative and non hurried tour. What impressed me the most was at the end of the tour Steve Hornady came out and talked to us and shared some hunting stories and in-site into where the company was going. I’ve been on a number of various plant tours, being interested in the manufacturing process, and never before or since has the President of a company acknowledged that I was even there. My hats off to Steve Hornady for making it a memorable trip for the two of us.

So true, just look at the increase of idiots taking selvies, jumping barrier fences and approaching bison/bears in the National Parks lately. Seems like more everyday had lost all common sense and respect for law and order, just like the politicians have.

I've been through both the Hornady and Sierra tours. Sierra was more accommodating to us than Hornady. I remember standing in the Hornady front office with my family waiting for someone to take us on a tour. The receptionist "reminded" us that the kids couldn't touch the stuffed animals in the office. They weren't even close to Steve's trophies. Out of the whole tour, that's front and center in my mind.

This is as much about the people who inhabit America as anything. They have warning signs at Yellowstone, "don't go near the buffalo" Yet someone is going to sneak up and slap him on the but. They walk among us!!!!

My mind just can't wrap around someone doing that.
For my sanity's sake, I assume they grew up in a city and have essentially no experience with animals - other than cutesy cartoons on TV where even a lion can be gentle and know not to harm a human.
