You can build a Remage yourself for your budget. A custom action like a Stiller will be around $1000 or you can buy a trued Rem from LRI, PTG, etc; just be sure the barrel threads are standard. CBI has excellent prefit barrels for $350 that shoot great, and a trigger will run $150. Choate makes an excellent stock for $200, and with dbm about $400; you can pay more for a prettier. Oh yea don't forget a barrel nut for around $50. I have these setups on Savages which shoot well, but my Remage based on a Stiller is a bit nicer with more options.

Find a way to do it RIGHT one time. Check with Alex Wheeler here or some other gunsmith that can be vouched for. Almost ALL of us shunned the advice of buy once and lost/wasted much more than we would have doing it right the first time. $3000 - $3500 is about average. $2000 will get you 2/3rds there. You won't regret a complete rifle.
