Gunsmith for 600/1000 yd Gun

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could recommend me a quality gunsmith for a 600/1000 yd rifle. I've looked at the top gunsmiths page on the main site but since this will be my first build I was hoping to hear a little testimony/experiences from some people. Proximity doesn't really matter to me but FWIW I live in the upstate of South Carolina. Thanks a lot guys!

There all on that page for a reason... they build incredible shooting rifles... But since you asked my vote will go to Bob Green ;)

Dana English won the 2013 SE regional. He shoots BR too. Great guy to speak to, very knowledgeable.

I've heard and read about many good things about Bob Green. So give him a call and see what he can do for you. Also beware and get used to the fact, that all the really good Gunsmiths across the US are kept very busy and have a loyal following for one main reason, they are very good at what they do and everybody wants the best shooting rig humanly possible. But time is something that is not on your side. I know several gunsmith will most likely give you a wait period that is much longer than you might expect. But if you want the best, either find another highly recommended smith or wait in line. But call Bob or another highly recommended smith and talk to him about what your needs are. You might also check out www.precisionriflesales.com, Ray Bowman. He builds some really nice rigs as well. Just my thoughts.

Mike Davis in Zionville NC. Mike has built numerous record breaking rifles.

A lot of shooters at Piedmont Gun Club have had Mike do work for them including myself.

Mark King of Mark King rifles built a lot of the record breaking rifles in 1000 yard benchrest. If you look at Scott Weber, Frank Weber, Louis Wagner, Matt Kline and Mike G records shot at Williamsport and Harry Jones you will see it is a lot of the records by 1000 yard shooters at Williamsport and IBS.

Call big Bill Shehane, of D&B Supply, and ask him for a local-ish recommendation. He and Diane own and run the place, and they are the nicest people you could ever want to meet, and Bill is one hell of a shooter too. They're in Cramerton, NC, but they make friends -- including way out here on the left coast -- wherever they go. http://scopeusout.3dcartstores.com/About-Us_ep_7.html

Pleasant to deal with. Honest. Builds extremely accurate rifles for accuracy oriented disciplines.

+1. They did the metal work for me on a Remington 40X solid bottom with a Krieger 1:9" twist .300 WSM. Then, Alex Sitman of Master Class Stocks pillar bedded it into one of his fiberglass prone stocks. I shoot it sling at 1000 yards, and this thing HAMMERS.

I'm sure everyone on this list is excellent, but I have experience with Warner Tool Company and Master Class Stocks, and they are top notch in my book.

Up in PA there's:

http://www.carlbernosky.com

- while south & west down in GA there's:

http://www.whiddengunworks.net

Both will give you second-to-none quality for your money & time, and may complete your work in less time than other 'name' gunsmiths out there.

Either one will be glad to discuss contemplated projects with serious shooters so get in touch.

If you have all the parts (barrel, action, stock etc) Bob Green is an excellent choice.

If you are looking for someone to order parts and build your rifle Bob Gradous www.gradousrifles.com or Stick at S & S Precision Rifles www.sandsprecisionrifles.com are both worth talking to.
