Gunbroker fees

I was looking at an item on GB,, with starting bid of $799. Then started looking at the fees the seller was charging.
3.5% credit card fee, 2.0% insurance fee, $50 shipping, and by the time you add tax in my state, a $799 item now becomes $906.00. OUCH!
The CC fee is pretty standard now

The $50 shipping is what I'd consider reasonable in these times. I've passed on items I really liked because the seller listed shipping costs from $75-100. The 3.5% cc fee is an annoyance, but average for someone not advertising no fee. Being able to charge a percentage for insurance is where i would take issue. It should be up to the buyer if it's wanted or not.

Bottom line is adding $100 to an $800 item is in no way out of the ordinary to me. 40% of what's added on is by the state, and I know i can't hardly ship a long gun for much under $60. I know it sucks, but do you want it or not?

Don’t forget to also factor in the FFL Transfer Fee that you will pay your LGS when they run the back ground search before handing you the firearm. In many places it is now approaching $50 or more.

After you factor in all of the cost it makes sense to buy local for current production firearms when it is an option.

$50 is the going rate at any FFL you use in the greater Houston area.
I don’t mind that.

In years past we always joked about certain dealers advertising a price that had nothing to do with what it finally cost to get to get the item to your front door.

Now it’s the norm.

Its not like ebay. For you to use a credit card the seller has to already have a credit card service that they use for their business. I checked shipping cost from Nevada to Maine for a long gun and it was about 50 bucks. Plus then you have to insure it. Gunbroker is required to collect tax.

Insurance has gone way up so that shipping of $50 could be $100 with insurance over a $1K and another $15 per inch over 43 inches. I shipped a benchrest gun recently and it was over $150 on UPS and that didn't include the FFL fee the buyer paid. Yes it's a bargain buying and selling here!

Dont discount what it takes to properly box up a firearm for safe shipping. Buying a box if needed, bubble wrap, tape, and time, time, time. It can easily cost as much as the actual shipping company gets.

It was several years for me between GB purchases and my last one surprised me with all the extra fees over what the seller mentioned in the listing.

I'm lucky that my FFL only adds $20 and don't have to worry about a NICS run since I have a CWP.

Side Note: I’ve had a few gun purchases go horribly wrong between the seller’s inadequate packing and delivery to FFL. I now have a very clear conversation about how the firearm will be packaged. If I have any concerns I arrange to have an inexpensive plastic hard case shipped from Amazon to sell or for them to use. The new gun case are shipped in cardboard box, which makes it that much easier for the seller.

One more potential issue with having a firearm shipped from unknown source/seller.
