Gun Ugly but shoots great -- What to do??

This is me now...I'd come to camp with that thing. Sit around the fire and say I'm a man of one gun, have been most my life. Last gun I broke in half swatting a bear in a charge. I was 12. I met a hobo riding a train with a purple gun and harmonica. Said he'd give me that purple gun if he could have his way with me. He played a mean harmonica too.

Nothing! If you dated an ugly girl that could cook, keep the house and do the shopping while also dating a gorgeous blonde airhead that couldn’t do anything but her nails, which one would you marry?………….never mind……….that doesn’t work here.

If you bought it to make it look
What do you do with a gun that is really ugly and needs a paint job really bad, but its glued in and shoots so good there is no way I am going to unglue and take chance on having it not shoot. Then there is the mailing issue.
good, tear it apart. IF you bought it too hunt and shoot with and it is doing it very well, then leave it alone and enjoy it's preformance.

Don't fix what ain't broke!!

If you're not going to take it apart and paint it, don't add anything to it, it will make it heavier and change the relationship ( vibration ) it now enjoys between the action and the stock....Post a pic here and ask for suggestions for a name.....May be fun.......

Rick

Yeah Brett doesn't to my knowledge have paperwork to keep a whole rifle with him and I will not unglue it, while it still shoots. I know very little about bench manners but I have with this gun shot several 5 shoot groups in the zeros. I am not sure who the smith is that put it together but it has an aluminum bore guide that clips to the bolt latch that came with it. i thought I would see who made it and get more 1 for a short action Remington and 1 for long action Remington. It is stamped Selley Masker so I don't think i will find anymore. It came with a Krieger barrel that was supposed to have about 300 rounds through it and I ve shot about 200, so one day it will need a barrel, and i guess then it will get unglued and screwed and maybe I can get Brett to do Hawaiian camo on it.

Shoot it UGLY and WIN. LOL.
I’d love to be the guy doing that ! I did some of that with a 2 groove ‘03-A3 I purchased for ( I believe ) $19.95 or so in ‘61 through a newly formed club . I had a roughly cut, unfinished stock installed , and took top honors in the offhand position with supplied military ammo
As I recall, I was using a military sling , ( being recently discharged by the USMC )... One does not soon forget how to set one up . Yeah.... it feels good to do SOME of that !

This is about as far from a field gun as you can get. LITFA????? This a Hall actioned 6 PPC bench rest rifle. I think the ugly gun title rest with one of the BR group I used to shoot with. A 722 Remington with a cobbled up laminated stock with a heavy barrel that has been shot some much it has been set back numerous times and has the scars to prove it. It was barreled without a recoil lug and later it was decided it needed a lug so a horseshoe nail was driven into the stock behind the tang. I have no idea why they left it stick up so high maybe they didn't want it to interfere with the trigger function or maybe it could he used as a long-range sight like the old black powder cartridge rifles sometimes had. They 4 or 5 empty 8 lb jugs of H322 that had been used in that gun and estimated it had fired over 15000 rounds. It was a 222, and it was still tough to beat it at 100yds. I wanted it bad as it was so ugly it was cool. but he would never sell it. he took it apart and made it in to something that was sellable and hung the barrel on the wall. when John died (the leader of the pack) we just stopped shooting together.
Did Festus Haggen do the smithin' on that 722?
