Gun trust question.

I am in the middle of getting a trust set up. Just waiting for the noterized paperwork from my "trusties". This question was posed to me...Can I put more than one suppressor on the trust. If I am going through all of this paperwork for one, why not get two or three suppressors?

Anyone have a clue on how these things work?

Yes you can put multiple item in your trust. There is no limit as to how many NFA items that can be owned by one trust.

As Mason O says, you can put just about anything in your Trust, including a directive that specifies who gets what and what you want done with certain items you now own, including weapons. Suppressors are nothing more than "Property" and you can designate how you want certain items handled. It's just like how you want to receive life saving medical care (when you are incapacitated) or resuscitation in the event your heart stops. You can be very general or very specific in your wishes and desires. It also makes it easier for family members to deal with your belongings once you pass. It also prevents family members from arguing over who gets what or what your intention were while you lived. Just makes sure family members or whomever you choose as a "Trustee", is aware of the Trust and its whereabouts. Makes life a whole lot simpler for everyone when you're no longer among the living.

As said above, you can add anything you want to the list of property in the trust. When you get anther can just use a schedule a to add to it. I use add one at a time but have added multiple items at a time and it has been the same that way also.

Another question. Can a suppressor be taken out of the state it was purchased in? Can it be used out of state by one of the named trustees? Is the "tax stamp" a state issued or federal issued stamp?

Good question! As an active duty service member, I frequently re-locate (about every 3-5 years). I am concerned as to how this will affect my ownership of NFA items, especially if I am forced to move to a non NFA friendly state.

For one thing, you need to be sure the state you plan to travel to is NFA friendly. I'm not an attorney, but, there is an ATF form 5320.20 to fill out. There is a waiting time to receive a response on the form.

Edit: Keep in mind, a suppressor is an "NFA Weapon", and Federally controlled.

BTW: The best way to register a suppressor, is through a trust. You can be one of the trustees

As long as the state you are traveling to is ok to own and use a suppressor it is ok to got there and use your can. There are no forms to fill out. The tax stamp is a federally issued deal. It's honored by everyone but you still can't keep your toys in a non friendly state.

If you are transferred to a non NFA friendly state sadly you are out of luck until you transferred out again. The alternative is adding me as a trustee and I'll keep them safe and warm until you can take possession again a safe deposit box in your currently, NFA friendly state is what some people use of a close friend or relative's place to keep your toys until you're free again.

As long as the suppressor is locked in a room or container, with the registered owner maintaining control of the key. Transporting NFA Weapons isn't something to take lightly.
