This link will take you to a Swedish,?) site where they tested different rifles with a bullet stuck in the bore, squib load) followed by a full power load. Some of the video will surprise you!

Wow! The Euro flavored brands withstood the lodging and the Remington barrel didn't. Don't know what else to say.

Preacher, thanks for finding that test. Fascinating videos to say the least.

,FYI, if you can't get the videos to display with Firefox, try Internet Explorer.)

If you watch all the videos a couple times you will see the barrels bulge even on the rifles that didn't have catastrophic barrel failure. But it does suggest that Euro proof testing may have some benefits.

And, in the Tikka and Sako examples, in the first third of the video you can see that the barrels do rupture or at least vent smoke and gas. This is visible with the Sako 85 and quite noticeable on the Tikka T3.

Thank you for sharing this site. My hand quivers everytime I shoot one of my Remington 700s. It was very interesting none of the actions failed and no rearward gases were observed.

I wonder if the Euros were using button or cut rifled barrels. For sure the Remington and Ruger were hammer forged barrels.

I have been shooting a Blaser R93 for about 10 yrs. These are
very hard steel no one wants to work on them other than maybe a port job or Muzzle break. No one wants to rechamber these barrels.
