Gun Safe Coffee Table?

You'll have two major problems with the door, which is heavy. Just opening it, you'll be lifting it up. Ok, if you're young and strong. You'll need props to hold it in the open position. If the weight of the door is ever left unsupported in the full open position, you'll "spring" the hinges and ruin the safe.

A shooting buddy of mine had an old Treadlock rifle case that was made horizontal with a cushion on top. It doubled as a settee. It had spring-loaded rods on the sides that balanced some of the weight of raising and lowering the lid/door. IMHO, it's a good idea but it needs to be build that way from the get-go, not jury-rigged after the fact.
