Gun Boxes "Keep em" or "Trash em"

over the years of purchasing new firearms, i have collected quiet a few factory boxes that the gun comes in. These boxes are really a headache, they seem to always clutter up wherever i put them. What's your opinion, keep em or trash them. Btw I am not a gun collector, just a shooter so i dont purchase or have guns i dont intend to shoot and hunt with.

I keep them too and all they do is take up space. The only ones a guy should really keep are for something very collectable and unfired. Then they should probably be stored in the original box to keep them from getting safe dings. I have never gotten more money on a gun that I traded in because I had the original box.

I keep them, and I have no idea why.
thats what prompted me to start this thread,i was wonderimg why i keep them also. i was doing some cleaning today and got to noticing how many i have and how much space they are taking up. Seems to me they are in worse and worse shape every time i come across them. Junk keeps getting piled on them and they continue to get beat up

Unless it's (the gun/box) for a "limited or special" run there's really no value to them. I do keep them for the few Win. Super Grades and Limited Remington runs though as they are either NIB or ANIB (scope sited in only).

I am in the same situation as you. The last time my wife saw all those rifle boxes in the corner of my shop she could not figure why I had so many boxes when I only own a couple of rifles. If she really knew how many rifles were in that gun safe I would be in trouble.

You only need one or two at most. Here's the deal. Take an empty box and as you go out the door tell the wife you're going to trade for another rifle. Come home with new rifle in previous empty box.

I don't have all of them but I have been saving the ones from recent purchases. Even so they can be a storage pain, I keep mine in the rafters of an outbuilding so they aren't in my way. Another thought I had was to break them down (if possible) so they lay flat.

If I throw them away what do I do with the rifles inside them?

I've got boxed rifles I bought new or won since 1979, some have never seen day light.

Thats what i call thinking smart.

I rarely keep any boxes as most all my rifles are custom built. I will keep the packing material in them for future use when i sell something to avoid having to go out and spend money on it.

We will get along just fine......... 8)

I keep them too.........I guess it`s just the hoarder in me. ::)

Right now i only have 1 or 2, seems as soon as i throw a box away it`s just the right size to ship XXXXX in, such is my life.

Phil.

I sold a rifle through Cabela's in Verdi, Nevada, some year back. They asked if I had the original box.
I got a good price for the rifle but it turns out that the box would have more than doubled the value. :'(
If it's a shipping box I probably wouldn't both keeping it. If it's a merchandising box I'd take good care of it.

I got a $485 kick up for having the original box (actually the factory hard case it was shipped in)on a 40XR Sporter.
