Gun Boxes "Keep em" or "Trash em"

The only ones I have ever kept are the ones for all my old school sendero's and we also have one that was from my dad's sendero special. .and that gun I have only seen three!.

I keep em. When I sell something, MOST people ask if I have the original box. Unless it is something I bought used, I can always say yes. Sometimes no one asks. For those times, I think I still have some gun boxes for guns I no longer own.

In this months American Rifleman there is a page on the Smith & Wesson Model 49 Bodyguard. The value is listed as:
$535.00 (Subtract $125 to $150 without box and accessories). QED

I have sold guns with the box and it seemed to help the deal a little. That label on the end of the box is a good permanent record of the gun configuration and serial number if you should ever need it.

Great idea about going out with one "Empty" Box and coming back with another! :o

When I had my gun shop I had dozens of customers that won my raffle drawings. They would go home with a printed ticket and weeks later when I knew the guy was not home but the wife was, I would call and let the wife know that the husband should come in to pick up the gun that he wanted. Only worked once for any given customer buy sure help boost my gun sales.

well ive kept them this long, whats another 10,20,30 years...i think ill look into the deepest darkest areas of my attic and see if i can find a place there to hide them

I keep all of the boxes, and use them to ship other items. You can't believe the reaction you get when you send used golf clubs in a gun box to states like CA, and NY!!! ;D ;D ;)

My wife already has big "cardboard box" collection.. I toss em after a few weeks..

+1 and great thread. I'll keep the box and test new firearm with factory ammo. If no problems I'll toss the box (in case of warranty work) and start handloading

Like others, I've got a pile of rifle and handgun boxes. I store them in the garage attic with the ends showing so I can easily identify each one.

I've found that whenever you've got a rifle for sale, the mention of the original box and paperwork always adds some appeal to the deal. It also makes it easier to ship a rifle you've sold if you've got the original box and packing.

They're a real pain to store, that's why they're all up in the garage attic out of the way, but they DO have value IF/WHEN you decide to sell the rifle. That's why I've got a pile of them....you just never know......

Keep 'em.

Potential buyers mostly seem to see added value in having them. Sometimes the box can bring more than the original contents!

Just be sure to store 'em where critters can't get to 'em. Value drops off significantly when they're chewed to heck and/or stink....
