Grinch-fest at Bart's

Some interesting stats! Well at least they are for me. This year I shot 13 600yard matches.

My overall avg 2 gun agg for the year was 3.005. That's 104 record targets (not great)!

However, I switched to the Grinch for the last 3 matches of the year and my avg 2 Gun score has dropped to a 2.315 (24 targets). That's a significant change. All previous matches were shot with a Dasher.

Short follow up question if you don't mind. Were you shooting the same bullets for all or different?

This year I've shot a mix of my 105 Infinities, 103 gr Dominators and 103gr flying pigs! The last Three matches I shot were with the 103 Pigs and Dominators.

Here's a couple of groups Roger Putney shot with the 105s. He broke the range record SE Ohio with the .731 and broke it again a few months later with .562.

Bart, that's a considerable difference. Do you think it was all cartridge related or could some of the improvement be attributed to more experience shooting longer range matches or possibly better shooting conditions the second half of the season?

Jason,

I'd say the improvement can be attributed to several things coming together. Conditions for the first few matches were sporty. One big factor was getting a 500 yard range at my place. That helped a bunch. But have to say the Grinch has played a big roll. The first match I took it to was the Nationals. I got two barrels about a week prior and started testing them. I got both of them shooting pretty well and I haven't looked back since. The Grinch is just easier for me to tune and doesn't want to throw shots like my Dasher.

Bart

Nope! Roger was shooting the mighty Dasher! With a Krieger 8 twist.

Bart,

Which of your three would you assume better suited for a 7.5 twist Dasher? Of course it always comes down to that the barrel likes, but buying in quantity necessitates an educated guess ;-) I understand the 103's are not available yet, but neither is my spare money :-)
