green mtn barrels my first experience

Just wanted to post my experience with my first green mtn barrel. It is a straight 1.2" x27" 30 cal 10 twist that I fitted and chambered for my savage lrpv. This is my first chambering job as well and I used a steady rest to get the job done with less than .001 run out at the back of the chamber. (On a clapped out 1947 9" south bend no less).
The service I received was excellent and the barrel produced sub .5" three shot groups for multiple charges in a 300 wsm configuration. The barrel was turned between centers prior to shipping and I was able to measure only .001 between the chamber end o.d. and muzzle o.d..
For $150 I couldn't be happier.
Their website isn't working for taking orders right now but I got a call from a representative in a short time and a barrel was shipped and arrived in 24hrs. (I'm in CT).
Will buy again.

I built a 20 prac. on one of their barrels i'm getting ready to order another one for a build. Mine shoots at least .5 groups when i do my part and clean up pretty darn good for a barrel that is not hand lapped. I had my smith borescope it when i got my first one and he was impressed, and can't beat the price either.

I got one a couple months ago in 300 BlackOut for an AR since it was not going to be a competitive rife I didn't give it al the break-in pre shoot voodoo that I give my high dollar barrels. Well guess what, it shoots way better than expected. 10 rounds @ 100 yards with and EOTech, which doesn't give you a pinpoint aiming point. Still MOA of coyote all day and a blast to shoot as well!.

I know there's skeptic's out there that don't believe how well these barrels shoot because they don't cost 300$ or more. Now don't get me wrong they may or may not be benchrest quality, I'm not a benchrest shooter all i can tell you is they shoot just as good as my Lilja's, Douglas, and Shilen barrels. I wish somebody on here would handlap one and put it on there bench gun and test it to see the results I'm betting they would be impressed. My shooting consists of sage rats and hunting calibers, all I'm sure of is depending on which action I can buy 2 or 3 barrels for what I've spent on other barrels. There are dudes in all of them so I'm sure somebody has got one from G.M just like you here about from the other manufactures, guess I'm lucky i haven't got a bad barrel from any of them. ;)

Roger,
No worries about me being next to anyone with this monster at any of our matches. If I did bring it I would shoot on second relay at least two benches clear to either side. No muzzle brake on it so it is not too bad :). I did manage to take out a few x's with it and generally keep in on the ten ring during initial load testing.

I am going to shoot the heck out of the barrel and when it dies I will get another one from the same source. This is a fun gun for me, and will likely never see competition - and I will likely continue to have my bench guns 'smithed by a BR gunsmith who knows how to cut winning chambers and crowns, knows the BR actions in and out, and knows how to evaluate a barrel prior to installing. I am just enjoying the heck out of the process of doing my own barrel work for now - someday a mill will enter into the picture and I will do my own inletting as well... and maybe then try my hand at a full race BR gun.

I started selling and using Green Mountain about 2 years ago. I have sold a pile of them with great results. My personal AR in ..220 thunderbolt is capable of quarter minute groups. I have been extremely pleased with the quality and laugh like hell when I see someone selling a Broughton button barrel for $370.

Green Mountain barrels are very good. I won the USBR Nationals back in 2010 in Alabama with a Green Mountain barrel that we handlapped. They shoot really well for the money.

Ordered one "for the price". Got it in two days.:cool: Ordered another one the next day and got IT in another couple of days. Talk about being on a roll?:D
Bug hole shooters, every one.
Be REAL CAREFUL about bragging on Green Mountain Barrels. Wait time can go WAY UP.:(;)
