Green Mountain Barrels

I have a Savage Model 10 6.5 Creedmoor in an Asbury Precision Ordnance Chassis that I use for casual bench shooting. It needs a new barrel and after a long wait for a barrel, my gunsmith is suggesting a Green Mountain barrel.

I am not familiar with Geen Mountain barrel and am seeking input on that brand. Anyone own one? How does it shoot?

The threads I looked at were old and mixed, any up-to-date info would be appreciated.

A while back I used a Green Mountain barrel for a Savage .338-06 project and it routinely shot into a half-minute at 200 yards with a well developed load. I wouldn’t hesitate to use one again for hunting purposes.

Check out @urbanrifleman here on this site. He has barrels for Savages and by the reviews they seem to shoot pretty good. He is also a site sponsor too. It will not take long for him to do a barrel either.

My experience with their gunsmith specials is out of 7 most shot 1/2 MOA but more than a few were 1 MOA +/-
My experience with ~ 20 Wilson barrels is they all shoot better than 1 MOA. It's a rare one that doesn't shoot less than 3/4 MOA. I've had .4 MOA with several while shooting prone with a sling.

I’ve never had a bad one and a few have been superb shooters
That said they don’t make savage pre fits or even contoured blanks so you’d still gonna have to pay your smith to chamber and contour
You’ll be money and time ahead to order a savage profit from shilen or any of the other premium barrel makers and installing it yourself

As long as you're OK with possibly seeing this sort of interior finish.

Personally, I care more about on target results rather than the warm fuzzy feeling I get from scoping a super smooth barrel.

This is from the most recent Green Mountain that I looked at. Haven't had a chance to see if it shoots better than it looks.

That looks like the two Savage Model 12s I bought.

Well I musta got lucky too ;)
me too with the last 3 or 4? Every one will print a 5 shot group that can be covered with a dime!!
Never bothered to check the bore. Maybe they're all JUNK and I just don't know it??
Ordered one, got it in less than a week SO, I ordered a couple more. Got them in about the same length of time. Best NOT to talk too much about them OR, it'll take 6 + months to get one.

I bought a Green Mountain blank years ago from Midway for $99 bucks that I chambered in 6.5-06 Improved. Honestly one of the best shooting barrels I have ever had. Unfortunately, I loved shooting it and the cartridge was a barrel burner so it didn't last long. But that was back when components were plentiful and women were women.
