I have been using some GM barrels to practice chambering on since they are cheap. I haven't shot any so can't report on that but many people are happy with them. From what I can see some HP shooters use them but no serious benchrester would. I'd encourage you to check out their website and see what you can buy a new one for. Like Idaho says I will be buying Kreigers or bartleins soon for accuracy work. Wilsons minimum order I think is 100 and I don't know who resells them.Found a great deal on a green mountain chambered barrel. Low round count guy says shoots great(.5) and fluted. 150 RDS thru it. Asking 225.00. Any thoughts on quality or opinions on this item.
Always good to see more info on GM barrels. I have one in 22br ready to try. To the OP Since this barrel is allready chambered do you think it would headspace ok on your gun? Were you thinking you could just thread it on your rifle and go? That may or may not work. If you dont do that sort of work yourself you would have to have a gunsmith headspace it for you.I'm working with a 6mm 9 twist GM at the moment. I wanted to see what would be possible from an 18 inch 6 Creedmoor, but didn't want to experiment with a 300+ dollar blank.
Tool marks in the bore are no worse than I've seen in Douglas and the non-lapped Shilen barrels I've scoped. I haven't slugged it, but the rifling does appear to be a bit shallower than most of my other barrels. It is taking more H4350 than I had originally thought to find max, but it is showing promise. Comfortable saying it will be a solid 1/2 moa barrel when load work is done.
Bear in mind that my experience with a single barrel doesn't mean much.
I would not do it myself. I wouldn't buy the go,no go gauges for this job if I purchased the barrel. A gunsmith would do this. Its for a 700 action.Always good to see more info on GM barrels.
