My grand daughter is 9 she really wants to go hunting but she has thick glasses and has difficulty seeing through the scope of my 22. What are some options I can try?

I speak as a former "Thick Glasses Kid". A few important questions:

Does she see well - normally - with her glasses?

Have you determined if she has a dominate eye, and which one it is?

Does the rifle and scope allow her to have proper eye placement, as regards height, and distance to the eyepiece. (Kids little faces, and short necks often don't allow cheek weld with many stocks, even kids rifles.)

All of these issues need to be addressed with any little person, whether or not they have thick glasses or not. jd

When my girls were little I started them with a red dot, it is the simplest way to get them shooting and learning. There are old know it alls that say to learn open sights first, they are idiots… start easy

Yes she does see fine with glasses. I have not had her out shooting yet but her Dad has and he told me he didn't think she would be able to use a scope (gun) yet as she could not see through his scope.

I will get her over here in the next few days and try some of the things all of you have mentioned.

Thanks for all of the suggestions she really wants to go hunting/shooting

It's awesome you're getting her started young! Hope you can work it out so she can enjoy the sport. You're a good grandpa!!!

She has been duck hunting (in a blind), partridge hunting and rabbit hunting with me since she was 4. She cant wait to harvest her own critters.
She loves deer/moose meat rare, smoked salmon and of all things kipper snacks.

You should have her try shooting with the Glasses OFF. Then adjust the focus with the scope.

If her glasses are correcting for poor distance vision, she may be able to see perfectly well through the scope.

NOTE: This may or may NOT work, depending on her vision, but it's worth a try. And she should, of course, still wear safety eyewear. But the point is she may be able to see fine through the scope.
